Holdem: A/Q offsuit Typically most players find the ace queen offsuit a strong preflop hand, and indeed it is. However, contrast to most players i would not suggest an early position raise.(perhaps just a call) The ace/queen is probably one of the most problematic hands one could hold. Its a good hand, but against an Ace/King or any pocket pair or a high suited pair you might find yourself in big trouble. Daniel negreanu calls the Ace/Queen offsuit " a 2.7 " ,this is because he says in his whole poker career he most of lost over $2.7 million on this hand. I would suggest a big blind call or perhaps a call on a small raise.

I agree with this post. AQ is NOT that great of a hand. Yes, it looks good when you get it, but in actuality there are 14 better starting hands (the 13 pocket pairs and AK). You shouldn't be raising a lot with AQ in EARLY position. If you are in late position and there have been aa couple of loose limpers, throw in a raise and get the garbage out. However, AQ is a trouble hand and should not be relied upon to win you massive amounts of $$$.

Well this is similar to my A/J post in another thread Why Negreanu would even refer to AQ in the same class as 27 handwise is beyond me. First off AQ is certianly better, and I will bet anyone that 2,7 has not lost him 2.7 million dollars . Sure there are hands that are better than AQ to start, but my own experience tells me that it is much better for me to raise with this hand than call with it. I don't know the exact numbers as far as how many times I have won raising vs calling with this hand, but I can say with surity that I have done much better by raising with this hand than simply calling. I won't say I win everytime I raise with this because I don't, but my bankroll at one poker site didn't go from 5 dollars to 494 by simply calling with AQ I will tell you that much.

It's funny I come across a topic like this. The past few days it's come to my attention that it seems as though I get burned with Ace/Queen almost all of the time. But I'd definitely say it's a good hand to play. Raise a tad before the flop to push out those river rats and such.
