What helped me when I first got started was to pick a place on the wall before the game started. When it came time to play I only looked at one of two things...the other people at my table or that point. Try that and see what happens. Good Luck.

try doing it in reverse.... when you look at your cards and see 8 3 off... act like you have aces and look away from the table (like most newbies do) ..then play the hand like you actually do have the aces and see what that feels like...

then try... if you look down and see AA or AK ...just keep thinking about how many ways you can lose with this hand....4 cards to a flush or straight.. a flopped set of 3's ... J 4 when he hits 2 pair....that always helps me out

but i think acting different everyime...keeps you thinking about something other than your cards

I normally play with my friends, so tells are very easy since I am the best player among them. (They would tell you that too).

When I'm playing with people I don't know, or aquaintances, the shades go on and I say NOTHING during a hand I am involved in. I sit without moving while wearing a hat and shades.

The whole time I am concentrating on my opponent and trying to judge from his actions how big of a hand he has, and then I play my hand accordingly.

I have found that if you change your expression for each hand it is almost as good as a poker face. This can sometimes work better. This way your opponent wont be able to read you if you do have expression.

re: help on my pokerface

i make sure that I'm sitting in a comfortable position and stay that way throughout the hand. The position doesn't change whether it's a good had or the crap I usually get. I also try and keep a routine. For instance, I don't look at my cards until everybody else does. I also look at the person who is doing the betting for any tells regardless of whether I plan on staying in the hand or not.

Be sure you look and place the cards the exact same everytime. There are some players in my home game that I can read like a book.

If they are going to muck, they don't bother moving their card protectors...if they have a hand, they move the protector immediately...

Great tell when it's late in the game and I'm looking for a blind steal.

If I"m in a hand I usuallly only look at the flop cards just fixing on like the middle one. I found that what has become very intimidating is that i never talk at the table unless it is to remind someone it is there bet or something like that. If someone asks me a question i will answer it very short preferrably with just a knod of my head.

play like you don't really care about playing at all....

like have a bored look on your face and moan and raise while sighing lol

and practice in front of a mirror picking up your cards and looking at them and act like you got 7 2 offsuit and kinda give that light disgusted look and lay em back down and kinda act like you're eager to fold it...

never stare at your cards too long...i've noticed ppl that stare at their cards for a long period will have a nice hand (most ppl)...and ppl that are waiting for a draw will look at their cards periodically to see if they can possibly make that flush or straight since they have nothing else on the board. a lot of ppl don't practice memorizing their cards and what suit they are i've noticed...

just some tips that help me out...heh

If your eyes give you away then the solution is easy get glass and a hat. If the give away is in the jaw then chew gum, it may still give off a tell but it may not be as bad.

re: help on my pokerface

i wouldnt practice with the sounds while raising or whatever unless you plan to use that to your advantage and change it up after awhile...good players will pick it up quickly and then find what tendencies you have when sighing
