Is it that hard to lay down a flopped set?
this has happened to me too many times the last couple of weeks. from red rock in vegas, to commerce, to bicycle in LA... i need help...
the best example was the commerce incident... i got pocket 10s. everyone tries to limp in. im big blind. so i raise. two callers. the flop was 5, 9, 10 - no flush draw, all random... three players. one raises. other folds. of course i call - im thinking he's got cowboys or rockets, either way i have a set. so i have trip 10s. cant complain, right? turn is a 7. he checks. i gotta put him in his place now in case he's chasing to trip up on his high pair... so i raise, nothing too crazy... ..he puts me all in. now i can only assume he's chasing a straight, right? but the odds of him getting one, after the way he's been betting... and he's a pretty loose player to begin with... i call with my trip 10s. he shows 4-8 off suit. everyone at the table wanted to smack this guy. the river was a 6. was it wrong for me to wait for him in the parking lot with a maglite ready to beat his @$$ to death??? what would you guys have done differently at the turn, knowing there is a possible straight coming... trip 10s? yes or no... |

as for him staying with you pre flop, and on the flop, now i cant really explain that one. i would be standing right beside you with a machete. |

Welcome to Cardschat Billy (BBB? sorry can't use that, somebody else is BBB here).
Trying to play a set is wrought with danger. We all know this, or should by now. In this case tho, where the guys only real prayer was a runner runner catch, I might be there in the parking lot with you with towels to mop up the blood. You had better odds to pair the board than he did to catch runner runner. Poker is a cruel Mistress. |

No, the river killed my hand, forget the exact cards but it was something like 356 and 2 spades already on the board, river is 4 of spades. I think it was a bit higher but you get the point.

I think the point is he put you all-in, he did not call. Pushing with a gut shot is not always a bad play, calling with one is (unless you're getting ridiculous pot odds). I guess he thought you didn't have a good enough hand to call, he obviously didn't put you on a set, but he figures that even if you have him beat, he most likely still has 4 outs, so he's not drawing completely dead. But you put your money in when you had the best hand, and that's all you can do. You win the majority of the hands when your opponent is drawing to 4 outs.

How much did you raise pre-flop? And what position was the villain in?
59T is acutally a draw-ish board, especially if you've let other players in cheap or given them the right price to call with anything. I might've re-raised the flop. |

Lol, sure... sure they did... Anyhow, you should quit poker if you get mad at people chasing and take the game too personal. I rather have people be on draws instead of better hands during showdowns.

I know the feeling I flopped a full house before pocket 2's board hits 2- 3 -3 I go allin cards turn up he hits nothing on the board I'm laughing why did he call,he has A -8 fourth card nothing, river he hits ace. A maglite wouldn't be enough, lol
