Is this a give away
Sometimes when im playing at a table and bet a big bet, my opponant stares at me looking for a read i guess.
Well when confronted by direct Eye contact i break into a giant grin. I do this whether it is a bluff or a big hand. but what do you think? |

I think you need to work on keeping a straight face because if they pay attention long enough they will be able to determine whether it is your "bluffing grin" or your "strong hand grin". You wouldn't think there is a difference, but trust me, there is.

Ah, yes ... tells ...
At my local poker game, while having a big hand, I accidentally knocked over a pile of my chips. When everyone saw what cards I had, they all said "What a tell." Now, of course, they were all thinking that I got nervous and spilled the chips. In reality, I was just tired and clumsy. So ... as you might guess, I used this to my advantage. In subsequent weeks when having poor cards and wanting to steal blinds, I "accidentally" knocked over a pile of chips. Got everyone to fold to my raise. Worked like a charm and long as I only did it about once a week. ![]() Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I just love telling people how much fun I had stealing a few blinds with my "tell." ![]() |

Whenever a player stares at me for a while, I usually give the "What the hell are you looking at?" face and wave at them as a joke. I think I do this so I don't give anything away like cracking a smile or staring at the pot. I do this no matter what the situation is.

I don't care if they were staring at me or not. After my action I move my attention to the TV and watch intently until it's my turn again. I still can see the action in my periferal vision, and I usually am watching what's going on at the table, but my eyes are never looking directly at the table. After a few times they notice there is no point as my focus seems to be on what ever is on TV and they quit trying to stare me down.

I think that you defiently need to work on keeping you face straight, even though I dont play at live tables, I mean thats just a given I guess. Anyways, I would guess it natural for anyone to grin when they are stared at into the eyes, I mean its like a steering (I cant spell I know) contest isnt it? Someone is bound to smile! :-)

Whenever my husband thinks I'm lying about something (usually something silly, like passing gas), he'll say, "say it without smiling." Of course, that makes me break out in a big grin, which he uses to justify his opinion, even though it's never correct. He thinks it's a tell, but he's wrong. Your situation is probably similar. This could be a fabulous fake tell you've inadvertently developed.
