Getting Inside Players Heads Respectfully! Okay, its obvious that everyone wants to punch the players that run their mouths . If we could we would punch them through the computer. I think the table is where you should try to play cards not piss people off. However, I came across a discussion about how to deal with abusive players yesterday and I started to think. Pissing people off can be a good strategy. I like getting inside players' head in real life because it is easy to tell (in a real room) when people are being disrespectful and when they're having a good time. I was wondering if there is a way to play online, talk up a storm, and not come off as an a**. If so, how? thanks.

When it comes to any type of online talking, a lot of people don't really act like themselves. The anonymity that the computer provides lets people do things that they would never think about in person. That might make it a alot harder to talk to people online, especially at the low levels, and have any kind of meaningful conversation. Every bit of conversation that I have seen is either someone berating someone else play or making smart remarks. I would suggest not worrying about chatting and just stick to your game.

re: Getting Inside Players Heads Respectfully! poker I found myself playing a double or nothing the other day and some player kept asking and guessing my cards each time he folded against me. So I just kept saying he was right because he thought I had the nuts everytime I bet. He was the bigstack after taking to players out in a 3 way pot. He gave me a table image of having great cards and I stole blinds left and right and basically went from lowish to 1st place while everyone else fought it out because no one would call my raises. Sometimes its good to let someone do the talking and reep the rewards. I know this isnt a situation you would come accross everygame but its an intresting one if you can use it when it happens. By the way if I start talking trash which has happened before but not often and is rare I know that I am tilting.

What specifically are you talking about here? Because I do tend to talk a lot at tables (live, not internet), but I don't consider myself abusive. There are plenty of people that run their mouths (i.e. Phil Laak) who do it without becoming abusive. There's a big difference between Laak and Hellmuth.
