FT Freeroll Strategy

I'm wondering if my strategy is decent or not. In the full tilt freerolls i usually play tight early, avoid large pots without good hands, and play the good hands aggressively. Later if I have some more chips, I usually loosen up, since most of the idiots are gone. Many times though I don't get many chips accumulated while playing tight, so as the blinds rise, I am throwing out large percentages of my stack just to play.
Any advice on how I can improve this, so I am not always the major short stack when it gets deeper into the tournament?

Your beginning sounds sane, you might want to bloat the middle some so your end can get fat.

Since you're talking FREEROLLS, and the biggest expense there is time, you have to consider what you think your time is worth. Many will adopt a hellsbells, charge at all costs approach figuring that no matter what happens they will recoup their buy-in.

If you, like many of us here, are trying to build a bankroll from nothing, then your plan is solid with the exception of probably needing to get a bit more aggressive through the late middle part of the tourney. Traditionally that is the time to build a stack. All your really need to do is break the money bubble. Many will tell you you need to play to win, I say BS, until you are ITM, you can't win.

Yeah I guess I do take it a bit too serious sometimes, but if I'm going to make the money or win, I do have to build a stack. And since it is free, there's no risk, besides wasted time. (I think it's fun though so it's not wasted to me ) Thanks for the help

Ok, consider this. I like to play loose early. There are 2 reasons for this.

#1. Get yourself a decent hand early and stay pot committed. Those donks at the beginning are putting money in the pot with mid pair, mid kicker. AND DO NOT SLOWPLAY. They always tend to catch something if you slowplay. Make them either commit to the pot and beat you that way, or push them out and take 1/3 of their stack. ***Take advantage of the donks early***.

#2. If you play aggressive/loose early, and you make a bad play and get out in 10 minutes, or some donk outdraws you, think of it this way-- You potentially saved yourself 3 hours of sitting on your computer only to get outdrawn 30 places away from the money by some idiot going all in with 4,4 or J,10.

cashing in their freeroll really involves alot of luck because only top 1% cash (27 out of 2700). i reckon it's fine to play tight early and let all the donks knock themselves out, but mid game is where you really have to get lucky and hope the cards are falling your way because by midgame you probably will be mid stack at your table. the blinds arent big enough that you can go on a stealing spree and the big stacks are really looking to bust you so they can fold themselves ITM. if you've managed to make it through to say the top 100 or 200 with a decent stack then you can start playing some real poker and stealing blinds and stuff.

i have the same ideia, at freerolls the cost is our time.

at freerolls be agressive all the time. when it pays pays good, otherwise uou are wasting time to reach the money of what? $0,20, ....$1?

I always like to play real loose the first few hands and try to get a good sized stack. If I hit my cards and am looking good I back way off and let things sort out a little. If I start loose and go out early so be it.

Basically I rethought my idea and here is what it boils down to:

**TIME**

like many people have stated your buy-in is time. If you have a free Saturday like me, play tight at first. If you've only got 2.5/3 hours to spare try to get a huge stack so you can sit out and still have a legit shot at making the money. That's just my take on.

JUST REMEMBER:
some say freerolls are a waste of time. Too much time to give up for such little to win. BUT those are the people who deposit $150 a week and lose it all. Yeah sure, maybe you don't make much money in them, but I skilled player can make a bankroll off of them. Win $2 3 or 4 times, who the heck knows what one can turn $6 in to. The possibilities are endless!!

Start loose but not crazy,if you win and beat the all-in donks you'll have a good stack to use when in later on the freeroll,its important to have a big stack so u could outplay in the late stages..

Those games are just not worth the amount of time you have to put in to place in the money compared to the payout you'd get.

I played them when I first started to play online poker seriously just before the beginning of last summer. I've cashed a handful of times in them...two bucks each time...for 4.5 hrs of work each time. There were plenty of other times I busted out after 4 hours of work as well.

I found it was far easier to cash in the private freerolls that you can find on full tilt. Alot of them are offered on fridays and saturdays. Some of them have very wide payouts...meaning you might be 93rd out of 800 but still get 20-25 cents. Doesn't sound like much but it will take you far less time to earn it then playing a normal FT freeroll. Win a few of those here and there...then you can consider playing in some 1.25 SNG's..and hopefully things take off from there.

Whatever you do...do not waste that small amount of hard earned freeroll money in cash games like many people do...because most people lost it very quickly.

I agree with the OPs strategy. If time is an issue, play 2,3,4 tourneys at the same time.

Id rather play loose and stack up on chips to have a chance at winning......... it is a freeroll.......and sometimes no matter if you do everything right someone is going to suck out on you because its a freeroll....

Pfff. Go wire to wire. Chip leader the whole way then go down in third. I move with j k in sb and guy calls me with ten four. i flop the jack and he gets runner runner gut shot on the river.. I dont care what any of u say.. Thats rigged by ftilt to finish the tourney. No way in hell that guy could call that and win considering he only had 4k more than me.. Thats so sick iam ready to puke

Bottom line... YOU MUST PLAY VERY AGRESSIVE EARLY. Take chances is what I would reccomend. I rather be elimanted first then 150 etc. You have to take chances and try to double up a couple times

Tight and Aggressive early. Loose and Aggressive mid to late. You have to wade through all the traffic early. Your always have to try to stay away from the wreckless players.

Yeah you've got to be . You've GOT TO BE Loose & Agrressive in the early stages. Otherwise its no use. You got to be smart basically. play the top hands and make table observation. It depends on your table. If people are tight play loose and vice-versa . Dont be stupid . Mostly you ought to be aggressive cause people r gonna be tight . so watch out and GL Cheers

In the early stages I allways play like a TaG player at freerolls,in the middle only tight,and agressive in the late.
