Freeroll strategies
Does anyone have any real good freeroll strategies to help make it to the final tables of freerolls more consistently.

Depending on where you play and what you mean by "consistently" the answer to your question might be "No."
Some online sites will have 6000 people or so in the tournament. So you could be one of the best players in the entire tournament and be 10 times more likely than the average player to win, and still only make it to the final table about 1% of the time. That being said (and it is very important to understand how low the chances of making the final table are for even the best players in a tournament), you're probably looking for some advice on how to play better. For some very simplistic advice: Early on: Figure out the table dynamic. If everyone limps in and there's not a lot of pre-flop raising, then limp in with any suited and connected cards, even 75s and K9s. Limp in with any pair. Raise only if you have really big pairs, and then raise BIG. If there's lot of raising and calling, then sit tight, wait for a big hand and then push. Later: You may have heard that "Tight and Aggressive" is how the pro's play. Take "Tight" to what feels like an extreme. Most sites track your statistics as you play. If you see that you are playing more than 20-25% of your hands outside the blinds, you are almost certainly playing too many hands. As for "Aggressive", most hands you play, you should be raising. If you don't feel comfotable raising it, it's probably not good enough to call with. |

re: Freeroll strategies
One more bit of simplistic advice is about how much to raise. Generally, you need to raise pre-flop more in the first few rounds of tournament. Raise about 4 to 8 times the blinds pre-flop. Later you can raise from about 2.5 to 5 times the blind. Raise more in late position, less in early position. Try not to call pre-flop raises, especially after the first few rounds. Either re-raise or fold.
During the hand, your bets and raises should generally be about the size of the pot. Between half the pot and the whole pot. One very important rule though is to never leave yourself with too few chips. If you see that you are about to bet or raise and amount that is about one-third of your stack or more, you're better off just pushing everything in. Your opponent wil be more likely to fold, and you'll win more if they call. And you've put so much in the pot that you can't afford to call anyway. - John |

My advice: Hope probability serves you. Only play cream of the crop hands: fold A-anything that's below a 10 and not suited. Consider folding A10 sometimes if you read your opponents as strong. Don't try to bluff - as tempting as it is. Bet when you have it, fold when you don't. You'll notice ALOT of people will be calling you to the river with their 4card flush draw. That's amazing, you'll get payed off big - 80% of the time. 20% of the time you'll get sucked out. It happens.
Draw chasers are your biggest opponents in early freerolls. Once you hit the top 10% or so most (not all) of your idiots will have been knocked out. Once you're comfortable enough, open up and play slightly more towards your natural style. |

No Wuckin Furries, I wanted to comment on your basic freeroll strategy, but the site suggested I start a new thread. Rather than doing that, I thought I'd use this space to tell you liked your strategy and I think most eveyone else did, too and your fears the folks here would bash it are surely UNwarrented. Good job!

My favorite Freeroll strategy is watching TV or youtube wile i play. Alt tab back and fourth look for premium hands ONLY! When you do hit a monster Play it overly aggressive.
Example: I was folding all hands and limping in with any pocket pair to look for a set. So I limp with pocket sixes and no pref lop raise, Flop come 3, 6, 3. Nut full house, and I raise the pot. I get one person attempting to bluff the pot and another person with an actual 3. They both push all in and I immediately call. Keep doing this and stack up like this every 30ish hands. |
