Freeroll Stratagy-Your Opinion
What's the best for the beginning of a freeroll tourney? Super aggresive, pushing hard with any playable hand (pocket pairs, suited connectors, two face cards) for an early chip lead, or tight to try to outlast all the donks and hope to catch better hands later on?

A lot of donks try to go all in early with fair to decent hands, trying to catch something lucky and double, triple, or quadruple up early. This is annoying, but there is actually something to it. If you have a bigger chip stack early, you can stick around a while and play more hands. This way, if you play tight and wait to make your move, you might just waste a couple hours and still not place in the money.
However, you should try to play whatever strategy works best for you. If you're a LAG player, play that way. If TAG works better for you, man your guns. Sometimes you just gotta go with what feels right. Other factors play in as well. Use your judgment. |

I am a ROCK, I am an Island.
I seldom play any hand for the first several orbits. I watch many get lucky, and make notes. Good example, last night, FT Poker afterdark.net 360 players I think. In the first 80 hands or so, I only saw 13 flops, of those 8 were uncontested bb's. The cards were running very poor. I had only seen 2 turns, with 4 reasonable hands, folded qq pre turn when flop was kxx, and player before me went all in. Folded 77 preturn when flop was not favorable. The other two hands I won, but was still below average. Then the cards changed, and I was able to get above average, and to the final table. DOnked out with a very bad read...... BUT I watched ALL those lucky donks who did so well early, go away. |

I play tight in the early stages and the loosen up when most of the donks have gone. It doesnt even matter if you dont win a hand early on.
I remember when i sat out for the 1st hour of a freeroll at fulltilt and still made the final table. |

The best statedgy for freerolls is super tight aggressive in the beginning. AA, KK, and maybe AK only. And only play them all in. You are guarenteed to get callers and have a high percentage of winning the hand. If you lose ,remember its only a freerol. After you have increased your stack that way just wait it out to the next hour and then play your regular game. This should stand you good.

I vascillate
Some nights I'm just killing time and will go all in with the rest of the party poker on stupid hands. It's absolutely fun to win with an "I can't believe the idiot bet those cards" hand.
Other times, I do agree, start a freeroll then just wait for your cards and get rid of all the ones who like to do the 'all-ins'. I love the strategy of the game and it's hard to play strategy or bluff when everyone is prone to going all in. |
