Free rolls are nut's

I just read bill's post about freeroll's and i personally agree i swear some player's play to just be azz holes.yesterday third hand in a freeroll at carbon i get pocket KK and i bet 150 the blind's are 30 every one fold's but one he goes all in no joke Jh,2s,and my luck he get's one 2 on the flop and another on thr river.I personaly would not play it for 30 more less all in but that is the luck on playing freeroll's mine any way's

Freerolls are a joke.
Espesially in the very begin.
Pll just go allin whit every hand they get.
But this is the way to win a freeroll.
Your need all the luck and double and double your stack.
Because the PP is to small for to many pll.
Or you will be the short stack in no time and get overplayed.

I have learned that if I am willing to toss some premium hands into the muck, after the flop, I do fairly well. Then again that could be said for non FRs as well.

The problem with FRs is that you can play for 3 hours and end up winning 30 cents.

I don't think all in every time is an effective approach, but you do have to bet to win, place or show. I've found being selective can pay off. In the begining AA, KK, QQ go all in - someone will call maybe even everyone. Overbet 10x blinds or go all in with AK, AQ, KQ as well until around half the field is gone. If you haven't been donked you'll be in the top third or so. Now just play your game until crunch time when everyone out of position starts going all in. At this point just pick your spots bearing in mind the bets are infrequently correlated to the hold cards, flop or anything poker related.

This is almost exactly how I do the huge freerolls (ie pokerstars) I hope for good cards to go all in on b/c we all know 3+people will call. I usually try for 3-4 good hands like that to get a good stack then just sit out until the blinds get up to where they will actually hurt. 10-75 blinds dont hurt when you have a 15k+ stack really. That way most of the donks are gone and you can actually play your game. drawback is it doesnt always work and your pocket rockets get slayed by the mighty 4/9o

Iam glad that there is a 50 post minimum (even though i dont have 50 yet) now for the freerolls so they wont be so crazy

I don't feel like making a new thread, but even deep in a freeroll I had KK and pushed, guy turns over 6-7 so I start to celebrate inside as I would double up to the chip lead. Of course the flop came 3-5-4. But it happens, I made 11 cents anyway, and all's well because I'll be winning tomorrow's tournament at full tilt

This is very good advice. When you have these hands then 95% of the time you have the best of it. Also you can almost be guaranteed someone or multiple people will call especially early on in the tournament. There is nothing you can do if you get sucked out because these things happen and at least you know you went in with the best of it.

As the tournament progresses however you can loosen up your play and most of the donks are gone so it seems that the people left are playing a little more seriously.

By the way, there's a lot of bad advice circulating here. Going all in with the best hand straight off the bat (early in the tournament) is NOT the most effective way to play. If you bet maybe 5 times the big blind, adding 1 for each limper, much of the time you will get 2 or three callers before someone reraises you. This leads to dead money in the pot, and better odds for you.

Also, would you really rather get your money in when you are a 2-1 favorite or wait so you can outplay them after the flop and get your money in when you are a 4-1 favorite? Any very good player will not push all in immediately when the blinds are small, regardless of the looseness of the table. I'd rather play with a 66% chance to win heads up with dead money in the pot than with a 40% chance to beat 3 other weaker hands for a larger pot. Tournaments are about risk control, and pushing all in is definitely not the most effective way to do it in this situation.

When I freeroll i usually ignore the game for the first 30 mins... what i mean is I check my email, go on youtube etc. Unless I have A's or K's i won't even bother. Most of the loose play sorts itself out in the first 30 mins, and even though you might be a bit behind on chips, you don't develop bad poker habits (or pull your hair out because some donk outdrew your hand on rags!)

Really? In a freeroll I usually aim to be at 10k by half an hour in. I've never gone out in the first half hour, and I almost always have at least tripled up. I love taking advantage of the donks, especially when they wait until postflop to go all in, where I can get better edges and outplay them more effectively.

I disagree that this is the way to win in a freeroll. It's the asshole way to play in a freeroll. I've never played like that before, and I've done pretty well. You double your stack not by going in with J 2 and hoping you catch something. You play your good hands, fold the bad ones, and hopefully you'll get lucky enough to get some chips out of them. If you're not hitting, it's just bad luck, and that happens.

In those huge Full Tilt 2700 people freerolls, my goal was to get 10k an hour, that usually got you close enough for a chance at the cash. I only won one of these and I think it lasted like 6.5 - 7 hours. Not alot of money for time played.

In freerolls you need to be very pacient if you want to win something. Usualy in first hour leave tournament all fish and for example in fulltilt freerols from 2700 player afrer 1 hour will remain only 700. And this 700 players will play other 2 hours till to end.

You can't expect much from freerolls. There's nothing to lose. You'll always play against excessively aggressive players. Even if there's a small buy in of $1, you still have these maniacs going all in with nothing, because they don't care about losing $1. With freerolls expect the unexpected.

Yeah, since freerolls don't cost you anything, you can't expect good players to play. Sometimes, this is a disadvantage because bad players can be difficult to read.

The key to playing freerolls is to just not let the donk play affect your play. Keep playing solid poker, even though most do not! You will not win (or place) in all, but it is great practice for tuning your game--especially against horrible players.

Sit out for 30 min-1 hr and come back with a smaller stack and have most of the idiots already be weeded out.
