| Few questions on bankroll management! Yayy! Everyone's favorite topic. Hey, Right... I have a br of $100, currently grinding tirelessly at the 1c/2c tables on pokerstars playing with 250bbs. So $100 is 20 buy ins of 250bbs at this level. Now hopefully i will at some point get up to playing 2c/5c having 20buy ins at that level... a br of $150. First question. Once i get to $150 and move up a level... surely once i post one blind i will technically have less than 20 buy ins at this level therefore i shouldn't be playing at this level right? For example. I reach $150 in my br... then after a few hours playing 5NL i go down to $140. Should i move down.. or carry on til i go back to 20 buy ins at 2NL ie $100? 2nd question. At my current br of $100, can i play $1 tourneys in terms of br management? Being 100 buy ins for mtt i thought this was fine. Can i play higher stake tourneys? Say the 180man $4.40 on stars. Do i need a br of $440 to play this... or can i play with less? Hope my questions aren't phrased too confusing! Thanks |

| the actual numbers you use for your bankroll management depend entirely on you. what people have suggested here and there are simply guidelines, which should let you play with the idea that you are not going broke any time soon. if you feel comfortable enough at the 4.40s to think you will cash often enough, then definitely try them, but also think of the effect on your bankroll if you fail a few times in a row... that said, it is standard practice when moving up to set a threshold for moving down as well, e.g. if you move up at 150, then you say you would move back down if you lose 4 or 5 buy-ins. what i have also seen people do is change that threshold with time, for example the first time they try to move up they require 20 BI and move back down at 17 if it doesn't work, the second time they attempt it with 22 BI and move down at 18, etc. good luck! |
