I used to play those quite a lot and had a great deal of success by being very tight and just waiting for people to donk off their chips. Obviously buy-in level is important. I found anywhere up to $10 you could just sit back and wait for a hand like AA or KK to double up which would almost guarantee you a spot in the money.
Once the blinds get higher you can try to steal from tight players. Stealing even once an orbit can greatly increase your chances. The biggest thing to avoid is getting in marginal situations. Chasing draws or calling down with middle pair is not a good way to win these. The final piece of advice I have is to just adjust to how everyone else is playing. If everyone is being a rock you can steal their blinds and pick up some pots with well timed cbets and aggression. If everyone is playing ATC just sit back and wait for a hand to get a bunch of their chips. You'd be surprised how light people will call an all in. |

I played a few of the smaller ones on Stars.
I cashed in both of the ones I played in by pretty much folding the whole way. Only playing good cards carefully. Everybody gets jumpy and starts making moves it looked to me by hand 25. I was playing the $1.15 DoN. and it seemed to me that the rake was to high for my currently tight bankroll. But as far as higher stakes go....? |

You really only have to double up once to make it to the money in these. I play the turbos. Mostly i play Omaha but I also play the HE ones too.
Like other SnGs you want to play tight for the first few levels looking for hands that you can get a nice side pot with or even double up and knock someone out. if you double up then it is just a matter of letting everyone else kill each other off. it will happen. This is where you have to get even tighter. I am to the pont where if I have doubled up i will only play the blinds when there are 7-8 people left. If you do not double up and the big blind gets to 100 you will have to start stealing if possible so that you can survive the blinds and hope someone else makes a mistake, I have founbd in these games that it is important to play good but winning most of the time means that someone else made a really bad mistake. |

After playing about 1000 $10's, the only thing I really have to add is that as you progress upwards, you are going to have to mix in some non shove steals earlier on. However, ICM shove/fold poker should still be enough to profitably play up to the 10s (maybe 20s). |

Aggressive early, then tight later
In these types of tournaments, I would have to say semi-aggressive early as if you win a large pot or double up, you are in VERY good shape and are definately looking to place. Once you have doubled up, try to stick to just very good hands, lay down your JQ JK, etc. Play the real good hands and you should make the money. Hope I helped, good luck

re: double-up S&G strategy poker
I dont think theres any point in these sit n gos to be playing aggressively.
Other people will knock themselves out befoer you know it. I havent played these befoer but i assume that people try to be awwesome and bust heaps of people...cewrtainly not the way to play them. Stick tight, wait for huge hands where its possible to earn a fair few chips that will see you easily make the pay. Good luck! hope that helped. |
