While no book makes up for the knowledge and experience gained through play, there are books that help with this aspect of poker.
For tournaments, Harrington on Hold'em Vol 3 is targeted specifically at playing after the flop, and is excellent. For cash games, again HoH is there. Cash Games Vol 1 covers play preflop and on the flop for both heads up and multiway pots, while CG Vol 2 covers turn and river play, along with some extra material that is quite useful. I would highly recommend all of these books as they are exceptionally written, and excellent study material away from the table. |

re: Developing Post Flop Play poker
funny thing is i read HoH 1 and 2 but never decided on v3 since i believed those exercises won`t be that useful.
I was planing on buying the hoh cash game ones but do they help with the tourney play as well? i read it somewhere that a lot of poker players improved their tourney game after playing cash games, is that true? |

How good is your math? Post-flop play for me is math first, readings on opponents second, position third. Well, sometimes my read on the Villain outweighs the math
, but if you're acting without proper odds, you're likely throwing chips away.Try doing the online question of the day on PokerListings. The more practice you get, the more confident you'll feel on the felts. HOH is a definite must-read if you're serious. However, the game has changed a lot in recent years, or at least the players have changed. There's a lot of great information out there in cyberspace, much of it more pertinent to today's online format. I just did a search on post-flop strategy holdem and the top hit even has exercises. Scanning the top 4 shows a wealth of opinion and thoughtful advice. Sometimes when I get stuck reviewing a hand I definitely played wrong, I'll look it up in my books, then go online and get more opinions. Plus it's so much easier to search than books! |
