Dealing with the perpetual button/ sb raiser

Hi all.

I would be interested to know how u guys deal with this. U know the kind, they are on the button/ sb, and every hand they raise 3-4 times the blinds

How do u guys deal with it???

it depends on what is in my hand

Depending on our M ratio, I might either make a call with anything and play back at him postflop if he seems weak, or if our Ms are low enough, I'll go over the top or push with some pretty marginal hands to resteal. I hate these buggers too (I myself am one of them alot of the time ) and you CAN'T let him keep stealing from you. You have to take a stand and let him know he's messing with a guy who won't give up his blinds easily, and he'll back down.

I do this sometimes but I seem to have this amazing gift to play back with a hand like KQ when he turns over KK

Depending on my table image I'll call the steal attempt, then check to him on the flop. Invariably he'll bet out, then I raise him. Most of the time the stealer folds out.

Chuck, you said you steal alot from the button. Under what conditions would you fold to a play like I just described?

I suppose that would depend (doesn't everything in poker? ).

Depending on my reads, our chip stacks (and of course my holding), I might either come over the top and show him I'm not someone to put plays on, or I might just call and see what he does on the turn. Generally, though, stacks are small enough that a check-raise to a C-bet is a decent-sized portion of anyone's stack, so I'd have to either push or fold in that situation.

I generally try to steal weak and/or tight players' blinds, so that I avoid these tricky situations altogether. I'd definitely have to have a strong note on the guy that he pulls daring bluffs like that in order to make a reraise or call.

Thanks for the answer. I guess this discussion is based more on tournament play, whereas I play about 99% of my poker in ring games. Still, I made this play about three or four times in last nights session and it worked well. I did have a tight image though.
