| Dangerous spots in cash games I'm making a thread to highlight some of the spots in cash games that keep tripping me up. By dangerous spots I mean those where you have a good or very good hand, good enough to want to get all your chips in, but not good enough to beat the nuts. Posting something about these spots will hopefully help me play them better in the future. Maybe someone else can learn from it too. The first one is when you have a flush but the board is paired. At the time I thought - yes he could have a boat but there are plenty of hands he could have that I beat like trips straights, lower flushes and two pair hands. I should have just called his river bet though I think. PokerStars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com CO ($5) Button ($12.67) SB ($5) BB ($5) UTG ($7.28) 33/25, AfQ 67, 3bet 0% (104 hands) Hero (MP) ($6.04) Preflop: Hero is MP with A , K![]() UTG calls $0.05, Hero bets $0.17, 2 folds, SB calls $0.15, 1 fold, UTG calls $0.12 Flop: ($0.56) J , 10 , 8 (3 players)SB checks, UTG bets $0.30, Hero calls $0.30, 1 fold Turn: ($1.16) 9 (2 players)UTG bets $0.28, Hero calls $0.28 River: ($1.72) J (2 players)UTG bets $1.38, Hero raises to $5.29 (All-In), UTG calls $3.91 Total pot: $12.30 | Rake: $0.61 Results: UTG had 9 , J (full house, Jacks over nines).Hero had A , K (flush, Ace high).Outcome: UTG won $11.69 |

| I dont think there is anything you can do other than lose in spots like this, so i dont think you should be trying to avoid spots like this in the future, but just be happy you got your nice hand in and had the chance to get called by worse, e.g. trips when you hold a flush on a paired board... lower flush etc. What to do on the river; kinda answered this above, why would you want to do anything but put your money in the middle? The last post i read by you involved you thinking you might of been a wussy Dont let that become a recurring theme in spots like this please! |

It's interesting that you all agree with my river shove, I thought you would think a call would be more sensible Last edited by micromachine : 19th December 2011 at 1:57 PM. Reason: wording |

| Raise a little more pre, might not seem important of make a difference but it does. As mentioned raise flop and be prepared to 4bet shove, it's as close to a dream flop as it gets. As for river I'm pretty sure we're good more often than not, my initial reaction would defo be to shove. As someone who seems pretty aggro I'm less inclined to put 88/99/TT in his limping range and more suited connector types he doesn't want to raise. There's tons of trips, straights and flushes in their compared to the few boats, all which he would play this way and would call a river shove. |

I don't know that I shove at the river though, but only because the only call I should really expect is if the guy does have a boat. I would still assume I'm good and think about ways to maximize the hand. Just last week my nut flush got crushed by a straight flush. |

| pre is fine within reason..........RAISE THE FLOP......I'll happy shove it all in on that flop are u KIDDING me...... flush outs the the nuts any queen makes u the nuts an ace or a king and ur sitting on top pair top kick......TOP PAIR TOP KICK,,,,, and by coming WAY over the top on the flop ur making it highly likely ur opponent folds alot of hands that at the moment have ur ace high beat. or u may even get called by like KQ or ace queen as those hands make double gutters....a small flush draw with idiot end of the straight draw or what have u... |

| Villain has 10 outs on turn with and 2 pair to go with it if board draws 3d or some such dead card, discounting Qc and 7c, now assume he discounts Q's for higher straight that leaves two j's two 9's and three 7's for 7 outs giving him roughly 14% chance to hit river, the question is could he be pushed off his two pair and draw? |
