Creating a Hand Chart

Ok so after reading this thread I decided that i should create my own hand chart for Full Ring No-Limit Holdem.

What I need you guys for is that I have no idea on how to do it and would like some advice/pointers or simple instructions.

My understanding is that you use Poker Stove and Poker tracker and then you configure it using excel.

Instruction is much appreciated.

OK Munch, sorry for the wait.

I used 4 programs to creat my Chart.
PokerTracker- You MUST have this or something like it to rank your starting hands.
PokerStove-It has a built in hand selector. So does PokerTracker, but I like this one better.
Excel- I'm using this just as an editor. You might be able to use Word just as well.
Windows Snipping Tool- This is a great little screen capturing tool that comes with Vista. There are other free ones online if you're using an older windows version

Step one is to set your filters in PokerTracker. I set mine to NLH at a Full or nearly so table and an RFI (Raise First In) and a position of 6 OB (6 off the button) and NOT A BLIND. This will equate to Under The Gun at a Full 9 seat table.

Next, open your General Info. Tab. You'll see all the hands you've played that meet your querry. In mine you'll see that I've never had AA in this position. Ouch. If I had I would have raised.

Go down the list and look to see which hands you've won with and which you have not. I broke mine down into 3 categories. Pairs, Suited, Non-Suited.

You have to decide now what it is you want to show on your chart. You could just show the hands you've won with, but that might be misleading if you've won with AJ, but not AQ. Certainly, if AJ is playable then so is AQ. What I've done is compaired my losing hands with all the hands in that catagory of a lesser rank. If all the lesser hands equalled or surpassed the loser of the greater rank then I showed it as playable as well as all below untill I reached a losing starting hand that couldn't be saved by the lesser of that catagory. What you don't want is gaps between different ranked hands of the same catagory.

This is when PokerStove comes in. When you open it you'll see a main page where you can select the hands of up to 10 different player. Don't enter anything in it. Click on the Player 1 tab (any player will do actually). You will be taken to another page where you can select the hands for this player. Don't do anything here either. Instead, at the top you'll see a Preflop tab. Click on this. Now you'll see the image that you will eventually save. Start selecting the starting hands which you have decided are playable from the filtered position. In mine, I have a positive EV with only 6.5% of all hands from this position.

At this point, your nearly done. You now use your screen capture tool to save the image. Importing it to Excell is just a matter of cut and paste.

Repeat the process for each position up to the button. Don't bother with the blinds for now, that's a whole different story. Don't forget to filter the minimum number of players to at least 6. If you don't, your short handed tables will really skew the results.

Thanks, unfortuantly my hand chart is incredibly in accurate as my sample size is to small. I have an average of 8 hands for each holding in each position, which imo isnt enough to draw conclusions on.

EDIT. its closer to 16 :/
