The Check, Call, Raise? More and more often I am starting to see the check, call, raise on a blank turn/river. I was wondering if this should be read the same way as a check raise or if it shows more of a tendency of bluffing/nuts. For example, what caused this post is I had AQ and villain had ??. The flop comes A 8 8, villain checks, I bet, he insta calls and insta bets a turn of 4. Thoughts are welcome. I folded b/c the pot size wasn't worth it to me.

Silverslugger is right but the 'insta' calls and bets could tell you that they are strong. (Or bluffing, you never know ) I have tried to emulate Chris Ferguson's approach, even on line. I take my time before I bet, call or even fold. It makes the other players wonder and more importantly it makes me look at the board to see what I can beat, what someone else might have and make the right decision. Good Luck out there

re: The Check, Call, Raise? poker I`d say it either means he has nothing and is trying to push you off the pot or he flopped a monster and gave you a chance to catch up. You aren`t going to know which unless you played a few hands with him and have some kind of a read.

re: The Check, Call, Raise? poker Really it depends. you are being called, and sometimes it seems as if they caught something on the turn. It could be a bluff to make you think he caught something, or a bluff to make you think he suckered you in. You have to know the player and try to get a read on him. If your hand is good enough to call, you call. At one point durring your game you are eventually gonna have a good hand against his same move and youll raise him to see what he does. If he folds then you know he is up to the bluff... and thats how the cycle goes.

IDK about that fold AQ with an A88 flop is a very good hand, especially if one on one. It can also depend if you raised preflop or if he did. Chances are he does not have AK, and more than likely does not have an 8. I would put him on a K with a decent kicker, sometimes you have to take chances. If he is an extremely tight player, then i would think about folding, but just an average player, play the hand. AQ is a good hand for that.

re: The Check, Call, Raise? poker He didnt have you beat. He was floating you to see if he could take away the pot. If someone insta calls it is usually a sign of a draw, if there were no draws, he was trying to look strong so he could set up his turn bet and scare you. If he had a strong hand he would have taken his time to look scared on the flop, then checked the turn hoping you fire at it again.
