chasing at limit games

It happens so often, I flop four to a straight or flush at low fixed limit games. Is it right to call to the river hoping to make the hand, assuming there are no raises? Pot odds are usually right for the call, but I seem to lose a lot this way.

If you have pot odds it is not chasing.

If you are plugging money in hoping to win when u know u r behind, with no EV, that is chasing.

If you're losing a lot of money playing draws in limit, the only question I know to ask is:

Are you playing draws from out of position too often? Its a lot harder to get paid off/see cheap cards when you're playing draws OOP.

Have you counted your outs correctly? Have you discounted the outs that are likely to make your opponents hand?

Do you look at the implied odds after the flop as well as the pot odds(estimated odds for rest of the game)?

If not you may be overvaluing your hand and therefore playing too many weak draws.

Limit is my favorite game, hopefully i can explain my experiences with draws and turn them into +ev for you.

If it is 1v1 in a calm non-raised pot with a draw NEVER chase, check/fold

If it is 1v1 in a raised aggressive pot - see first card for min, if miss - fold. If hit, raise that sucker, and get some 3-4 bets (these are your implied odds - this is the money maker)

If it is a multi-way pot in a calm pot - see first card for min - if miss, check / fold

If it is multi-way pot in aggressive / raised pot - ASSUMING no >2 bets and you have the stack for it, see all the way to river, then bet that for value to 4 bet on river (implied odds again here).

There are three things to keep in mind.
More people = more money = better for draws.
More aggression = more money = better for draws.
Raised pot = better pot odds = better for 4th st draws.

Biggest thing to not get caught in is drawing out when pot is being raised out of control - you dont want to call a 2-bet, and have it come back at you as a 4bet - you are committed to calling all of a sudden and this is a very - EV play.

Hope this helps.

Those draws are an important part of your strategy, but you have to have the right odds for it. Also, if you just call, then bet when you hit your hand, you may be too obvious and scare off others. You can mix up how you play them a little - sometimes play tight and skip the marginal draws, and consider raising with a draw and enough players still in, etc. But do remember the cards that will counterfeit your hand and the likely cost of seeing both cards if you're looking at the odds with 2 cards to come
