| Cant play TAG Ok I have been playing chuckTs starting hands Quote:
Now the problem is that Im playing positional raises in late position.. and in the main they seem fine. Do I alter my game to TAG or stick as is? Is simply playing TAG early - middle with positional raises the basis of LAG or am I missing something really fundamental with this type of play? |

| I may be way off the mark but the starting hands quoted are not what i would consider tight, i play mostly tourny's so this may be why. http://www.tightpoker.com/hands/guide.doc This is an excellant article on starting hands, and below is a link to the site and page it came from, where you can view e.v. for starting hands with position taken into consideration. | Stu, I've just recently started playing $25 NLHE and really want to nail down my game before moving up to $50. Pre-flop play is where I'm going to start so maybe we can help each other out. I'm curious as to how many hands you played to get those stats. It could be that you've just been getting good cards over a short run and have entered more pots than usual. The reason I ask is, ChuckT's starting suggestions represent 26% or so of the possible starting hands. So, 30% does seem a little high. I'm also curious about your cold-calling percentage and what hands you're limping with. |

| Those starting hands aren't TAG. In fact, that's neither tight nor aggressive. A tight player wouldn't play AJ, AQ, or small pairs UTG. An aggressive player certainly wouldn't limp with any hand. It's very obvious you're not playing aggressively if your PFR is a full 10% below your VPIP. What you're describing is a much more nuanced approach. It's mostly tight, but you're willing to see cheap flops with speculative hands to see if you can win a big pot. It's not a bad style, but it's not TAG. I find this style to be effective in the fishiest games with lots of very loose players who overvalue their hands postflop. |

| Sounds like small sample size and/or a lot of small pp's. I play a very similar range, but more raising, and I run ~22/20. I think the UTG range is tight. The range described is only 8% of all hands. You can't get too much tighter without opponnents knowing to just not mess with you if you play from UTG. I even open it up a bit more, adding AJo, ATs, and KQs, and I still consider that tight at 10%, so I could be biased. As far as the limping thing, a lot of people feel that any PFR 66%+ of their Vpip counts as aggressive, but I like it higher. I'm just not a fan of limping. Okay, back on track now. I've got to assume you're not winning, because if this was working out for you, you wouldn't care if you were 30/20 or 20/20, or 80/72, you'd just be pumped about winning, lol. If there is a problem you're looking to fix, perhaps you could post some PT info, like W$WSF, WTSD, W$SD, etc. I personally like playing a tight/aggressive style out of position, and a loose/aggressive style when I'm the CO or Button. Omg, I just realized you're talking full ring. Wow.....ummm hmmmm. I'm gonna need a minute to re-evaluate. |
