Can't get past 100$ mark in cash games!Suggestions?

Hello CC members, can't believe I already wrote 300 posts on this site and it doesn't look like I'm gonna stop soon...Since I need some help .

Anyway here's the pitch:

Last friday, I decided it was time to get back to the online poker world (apart from freerolls) since I had accumulated a good amount of knowledge in my stay here and thanks to some books. Not having a great amount of money, I only deposited 50$ on pokerstars to play 0.10NL hold'em,at 9 players ring games of 20-50 BB (5$=10% of my BR).

Well, it started off good, and I said to myself "as soon as I hit the 100$ mark, I'm withdrawing my initial 50$ and trying to get past it again!". I found that I was way more tight than before and that it bore success! I made about 7 to 10 dollars per day! Problem is,Tuesday, when I got around 90$ and just needed a few more dollars to withdraw the original deposit while keeping good BRM, things started to go bad...I lost some good pots (bad beats or not doesnt matter), tried to shrug it off but I think I still tilted, ended up at 68$.
Anyway, I Worked my way back up to 88$ in the following days, and then same thing happened all day long today though I did not tilt and most of my losses had been bad beats this time around (Aces cracked twice, Queens once, and a flush to a higher flush...actually hurt so I memorized those only). Didn't lose as much either,but I'm back at 72$ and I'm a lil depressed cuz I can't help but think I might not hit 100$ soon if this keeps up, and I've been getting thoughts of keeping the 100$ once I do and moving up to the 0.25 tables even though that would be soon and not very good to my bankroll...

So I'm calling out to the constant cash winners on Cardschat...I need help!
I don't think I'm doing much wrong but I still happen to lose 4B.I in a row sometimes!It does happen the other way around sometimes but I feel it should more often since I studied so hard for it and clearly did improve my game... Anyway, my question is, how long did it take you to get past your milestones?How much should I be earning for a said amount of hands? How long did you stay at 0.10 tables when you first started out before moving on?Do I make a withdrawal if all goes well? And how can I keep myself away from the 0.25 tables when the urge to make up what you lost on the 0.10 tables is so big?(I succumbed once last time I deposited and promised myself I wouldn't do it again...I'm ashamed of having the same thoughts again).

I really need help from the people who actually made it through and moved up or can regularly win and cash-out thanks to online cash games (I don't want to feel it's impossible and that I can't beat the bad beats). Any of your Charts, advices, statistics, tips for this level,experiences with players, or help in any way would be greatly appreciated...I'm down and I think I'll never stop learning, but I really don't want to blow this Bankroll away so I really need some good advices and suggestions to get me back up!

Plus I need to be a winning player when I get to the 1K post no ?CC FTW!

your doing fine. just stick to your plan which seem slike you been researching for awhile. there is always going to be alot of variance which everyone goes through, so if your able to get through that and still have a good bankroll you will be fine.

I had and I have similar problem right now. I have $310 bankroll, and I can't got over $400 for 2 weeks. I was twice at $390 and now I know why I couldn't pass it. I was thinking only about winning to see $400 in my account. This leads to many mistakes. I looked at my hands and I saw few times when I didn't fold my overpair or top pair when it was obvious the other guy had a set or trips.

Don't rush yourself to reach $100. Be patient.

A dollar saved is two dollars won. Seriously! If you fold to $1 bet when you are likely beat - you have actually won $2!

You might not want to hear this but you should be moving down, not up in stakes. Move down and play the full stacked games at 5nl so you learn how to play with a full stack before you learn some bad habits. FWIW Im a BR nit tho. I have almost 25 BIs for 10nl but still wont move up for a while.

Setting a goal of making X amount of $$s isnt the best goal to as explained pretty well by C9 in this thread here... hourly rate at the table

You have a specific reason for withdrawing you $$s? May as well just keep it there if you dont need it for anything so you wont be playing with scared money. That the beauty of havin a a lot of BIs, you play better poker cause you dont worry about losing it. You even say your a little depressed cause you havent hit the $100 mark, you're probs tilting, even just a little bit cause the money is affecting your mood. Enjoy the freedom of good BR management.

Well I wouldnt cashout at all right now unless it was say for a pokerbook or something. Poker can be swingy even more so when your learning and dont have the knowledge yet of how to play correctly which is the same as where I am now. You should really not worry about playing at higher levels untill you have the bank roll to support it, I am learning cash games right now but have a roll that easilly supports 2/5c tables and it would take me to loose many many buyins to move down to 1/2c but if I was in your situation and went down to 50$ thats what I would do.

It also sounds like your letting the money effect the way you play your going to go through periods where either you get sucked out or you just spew and you need a roll to fall back on when you make mistakes. Oh and I believe some sites let you restrict your self to what limits you play so maybe do that for a month or two.

Agree in the playing deep-stack one but there is no bluffing aspect on the 0.05 tables and thus no extra steals so I won't play there because my information on the players won't do me any good...I still have to wait for hands all day long whereas at 0.10 I can steal from time to time.

looks to me like you are playing way out of your bankroll, i have about 600$ in my account and i play 10nl, you said you have like 80$, so you should move down. another aspect is that you set yourself a goal to make x amount of money when your goal should really be to play better poker, i used to do what you are doing, result orienteited, and things started looking bad, as i would get mad because i was not making money at times tho i was making good moves, things started going better when i was looking at my actions rather than my bankroll, i was happy when i got it all in with KK vs AT preflop, tho i would lose at times because it is how poker rolls.

our own poker pro Dusty Schmidt aka Letherass9 says he is not looking at his bankroll until the end of the month, because his results might affect his game, eves so playing well within his bankroll he never had a losing month, and i believe him. so you should do the same, aim to play better poker, play where you are bankrolled for and money will come.

the "winners" can't give you much advice, you are going about things wrong and with very high hopes that no one can really say much.
You need to post stats if you have HEM\PT3 or trouble hands if you dont.
Otherwise you need to understand... this game really is more complicated than chess, take your time: learn the game. Dont expect to be a winning player
Oh, and you went crazy high relative to the amount of money at your dispense.

thanks for the advice,but I'm playing with 5$ out of 80$ that's about 7% of my BR and that should be good no?but anyway, I've been saving my stats from pokerstars last time i deposited and this time around and here are some samples (don't have HEM yet):

1)Before cardschat and some learning:
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 171 hands and saw flop:
- 15 out of 23 times while in big blind (65%)
- 8 out of 21 times while in small blind (38%)
- 43 out of 127 times in other positions (33%)
- a total of 66 out of 171 (38%)
Pots won at showdown - 7 of 14 (50%)
Pots won without showdown - 51

2)After cardschat and some learning:
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 103 hands and saw flop:
- 2 out of 13 times while in big blind (15%)
- 3 out of 14 times while in small blind (21%)
- 21 out of 76 times in other positions (27%)
- a total of 26 out of 103 (25%)
Pots won at showdown - 7 of 10 (70%)
Pots won without showdown - 17

*Ok, seems to me that I'm much more tight right now, and the results look way better than last time (when I went broke ). I'm also more prone to playing from position now and folding the blinds, which I think is more rewarding also!
However, do you think I should be using the discount from the BB more often?(missed an A flush today for not doing so...), and do you think I should be a tad more aggressive seeing as I don't win as many pots without showdown anymore?(but maybe i still win more cuz of showdowns...dunno).

Anyway, I'm taking everyone's advice and yearning to improve my game...So any comments or analysis would be most helpful. Thanks !

Short stacking 10NL with less than $100 seems off to me..but each to their own.

Who said you cant steal at 5NL? You certainly can.

I have now played 28k hands at 5NL on pokerstars and went through a long period where I could not exceed $30 profit..but in the past 6k hands it has soared to $80.

Be patient. The beats will cease eventually and the graph will go up.

You need to be more "game improvement" oriented and less results oriented!

As your game improves, you will grow your BR and, hopefully, never look back.

Looking it at it from such a short term view is pointless for growth.

So many of us have had terribly long break even or lossing streaks, yet have came out ahead and are better players for it.

Work on your game and resukts will come. /thread imo

you dont have enough money for 5nl, let alone 10nl. I have $300 in my account now, play 10nl, and I think I have an aggressive brm strategy. You should have at least 20 full buyins.

I have also encountered a similar problem playing 5NL, however with alot of patience it is easily overcome. There is no need to focus on the bad beats as these are always going to occur, and are what will make up most of your variance if your game is solid. As already mentioned its also better if you dont set a goal to reach a BR of $100, but rather no. of hands played, time played per session etc.. that sort of thing. And dont move up limits to you have sufficient BR, fairly standard but alot of people tend to do this when the get frustrated over not attaining specific goals, and end up losing alot more.

Do NOT look at the cashier. Play your game. Focus on beating the game. Money will come on its own. Leatherass9 emphasizes this a lot in his book. Once again, do NOT look at the cashier. Have good brm and you're set to reach $100 without you noticing it. If you reach over $100 but you're beating the game well, you should keep playing. You may consider withdrawing once you think your run ended or so. Ever since Leatherass explained this, I never looked at my cashier, hoping to reach certain amount. Because even when I reached certain amount, I end up keep playing and end up creating new goals.

Your mindset while playing your game will be lot different than if you were to focus and say "i gotta reach $100."

Oh. And if you only have $80, I really suggest you play sit-n-gos or drop stakes. You're playing way beyond what aggressive brm players would even do. You got less than 20 buy-ins for 5NL. I suggest either play $2 sngs or mass multi-table 2NL cash games/$0.30 daily dollar satellites.
