Can't decide on tournaments or cash games?
I have had trouble with what to play lately. I love cash games and find that most of the time I do well on them, lately (last month) I have been getting killed on them. I find myself getting in with the best of it and then getting sucked out on. So i'm a little pissed about this. Meanwhile my sng play has been unstoppable. I have cashed in 12 of my last 15 and won 6 of those 12. I really don't like the sng game but I can't stand losing in the cash games like i've been.
Any suggestions? Should I just do what I like and keep pressing on, or stick with sng since I am doing very well lately on them. Also I find with the cash game stakes I play (.10/.20) that people shove all-in and at the time i have the nuts i have to call, when this happens it seems i lose to a draw lately 85% of the time. How do you guys play this? Should i move up stakes? I can't go much higher do to bankroll limitations? |

Don't rock the boat.
![]() If you are doing SnG's well at the moment, capitalize on this. It probably won't last. Use the SnG's to build your bankroll bigger faster so you can go back to what you love. But maybe the ring game really was never really your forte'. ![]() ![]() |

And why do you want to move up to where you get in less situations where you're the favorite? I'd guess your sample size is not that big? If you're playing those sngs within your br keep going until you start losing, it can't hurt. Then grind out those cash games. |

Youll eventually matriculate to what draws you most.
If SNG's are going well, by all means stay with them. That's how I got my start and built my initial BR. Wouldn't trade a single game of it. But I think, after playing different games, that cash games will eventually lead you to a better place in the poker world. Yes I understand your frustration with micro play. But you will still see that at higher levels too. Not to mentuion that cash games offer you a freedom of time that isn't there with mtt's or even sng's often. I also think that cash play will help your tourny play (sng's have their own dynamic though), where as mtt's and sng's will do very little for your cash play. just my thoughts GLGL |

I think everyone is failing to quote the right part of the OP. A) He is following BRM so what he plays in that regard doesn't matter, and B)

Yeah I guess I should stick with the sng at the moment. I have been doing well here, I still love cash games and want to keep playing that. I have done well in cash games in the past, but the last month has just been brutal, thank god for my sng sucess for it is evening out my other play. Thanks for the responses, hopefully i will see you all at the tables.

Everyone keeps harping on BRM. I understand it is important to keep to a point where you have the money to come back after a bad roll, but I believe the best BRM is to know when you are having a bad day (or week!) and stop playing or change games. I believe that staying at a level like the .10/.20 tables just because your BR says that is where you need to be is also stupid. I lost my butt on the .10/.20 tables, moved up to the .50/1 tables and won $60. I play better in that league of players. I have my own BRM that I used and I stick to it! Even though my $30 BR didn't let me play the $1 tables my ability did. So I think poker is a game of discipline. I played yesterday, took my usual $10 bucks to the $1 table and lost it in 15 minutes playing my best so I quit for the day. I went back in today and after 20 minutes of playing I am up $25. So imo stay to what you are good at and know when to quit, but always be careful. Remember, this is real!

Learn what you like most. If you like cash games try to improve on them and make the most out of them. Always pay attention to your bankroll management and you will surely eventually get over a bad beat and more importantly you will have fun while playing. It is highly important from my point of view to enjoy what you are doing and if cash games is what you like, get better at them.

Hey m8, just signed up so first post on here :-P
right as you are doing well i would build my bank roll on sngo's and every now and again i would then go back to cash and then if i lose back to sngo's and so on. reason i say this is i used to be a primary sngo playa and could never get the hang on cash which has more rewards so this method worked for me and eventually now my cash play is better then my mtt and on par with sit n go's. i hope this helps, definately dont go up stakes as you get the same donkeys at watever level just a bit less the higher up you go. if you are getting in favourate majority of the time could be just a bad run as long as your confident your making the right decisions stick at it. Best of luck |

YEah this is what I've been doing, it just feels like a waste to take a good 10 game SnG stretch and then blow it on cash games. Here is a little update since I last posted. I have continued to do well on the SnG but I have had a disaster with the cash games. I have decided to stick with 6 max SnG for now and if I continue to do well I will set aside a bankroll for cash. Thanks for all the replies. |
