| Cannot make the hero call =( I had J3 on a A76JA board. BTN had been raising on the BTN everytime so I decided to try to resteal from SB which didn't work, as BB called, which let BTN follow in. No action until the river, when BTN shoved. His bet was about twice the pot. I was leaning toward a bluff here as he wouldn't be betting so much with an A, but I couldn't bring myself to call as I didn't know what BB was gonna do. He shows 10 8. Still playing very nitty weak at 4NL. Not improving. Am still winning at a pretty decent clip, but could get better if I can do better against the aggressive guys. | re: Cannot make the hero call =( poker Yeah it was not a great situation to try to resteal. I just felt that I had not fought back at all to his previous steals from BTN (I had crap everytime), and that I had put coins in the pot voluntarily 2 times up to that point, that a 3 bet there was pretty strong. He could have had any two cards as he had raised from BTN all 4 times. I guess BB called with something like KQ suited. If BB had not called, I think I could have taken it with a cbet on the flop, or at least on the turn J. I just couldn't follow my gut there and call the shove because as you guys said, I could lose in so many ways. Normally at 4NL, a shove there like that is legit, but if there was a situation to call, against this guy, this was it. My cursor hovered over call 3 times but I eventually clicked fold. I put him on either a weak ace or nothing. Given his play before, I think he would not have checked twice with an A, so I was leaning toward bluff. |

| Yeah you needed to follow up your bluff or you're letting everyone know you were just kidding. Rep that ace after the flop and the pot is yours. Let it slip past and someone else will rep it and now you are on defense and can't make the call. |

| I would need to risk a significant portion of my stack to cbet the flop, and I didn’t think it was gonna work. I was just going to check fold if anyone bet. When there was no action, that’s when I started to think my J was good. I was prepared to check call the river, but the shove made me pause. Against a normal guy I instafold there, but against this particular guy I was just so close to calling. I thought a bluff was more likely given that I didn’t think he would check the flop and turn with an A, and I didn’t think he would shove with anything but an A or total bluff. Since his two checks made an A unlikely, a bluff was the only thing left. I did manage to get the right read and catch a bluffer in a smaller pot later on but against the aggressive dudes willing to put it all in with air, I still don’t trust my gut enough to call. |

| re: Cannot make the hero call =( poker My first question to myself when something like this happens is, "Should I have even been in a position to see the flop?" When the answer is no, then I have no one to blame but myself for going down a dark alley and getting mugged. |
