Calling A Raise Regardless Of What You Have

OK. I know a couple of players that do this and I believe it's not a good stragedy. Let's say you're the big blind with and the blinds are 100/200. Four players limp in. You raise it to 1200. Everyone folds except for the last to act who calls. To make a long story short, he actually beats you with because he hit his flush after chasing it when two diamonds came up on the flop. You ask him why he called that raise. He responds "there were no other players in the pot."
In other words, he simply called because if he folded I would win the very small pot preflop. I don't see this as a great stragedy overall. He obviously got lucky on that hand. Instead of giving up your 100, you would rather take a chance on a crap hand for 1200 and more after the flop. Obviously, it depends on the hand you have but it seems better to give up you're 100 instead of risking 1200 on a crap hand. What do you think?

This is a quote from a losing player who doesn't know how to play. While it is head's up at this point and these cards are most likely live. these types of hands are so far behind, we should be glad they are making this play. As the fundimental therom states. Everytime an opponet makes a mistake we gain. He got lucky and hit his flush. But a large percentage of the time. (sorry I don't have the numbers. pokerstove is on my other computer) we will win this pot and take their chips. It sucks when they suck out but that is the kind of player who makes playing worth while.

Remember the saying. "You can't get bad players off of bad hands"

That's one way of looking at it Tim, but you've got to bear in mind a) he's getting over 2/1 odds on his call (he needs to pay additional 1,000 not 1,200 as he's already in pot) so possibly worth a look if he's got sufficient chips, and b) he knows he's got 10 4s, you dont know he's got 10 4s. If he likes the look of the flop he can win the hand off you without having to reveal his actual hand.
