Callers Right Behind Me

I've always been annoyed when a player right behind me calls my bet of 3 times the big blind before the flop when we're both out of position. Generally I'm talking about tournaments where the table is mostly full.

To me it seems like a really bad play, and quite often another player will push hard, knowing that I'll probably need to fold and that the guy behind me probably doesn't have a hand worth risking any more chips either.

Personally I'd rather fold anything but a premium hand in that position. Any other thoughts?

when your Out of position, you should stick to AA KK AK.
Their loose players, you could 4 bet. It's real bad play, you need to find out what their calling range is, then use it to beat them...
I forgot to add, when you hit your hand make them pay...

I think kidkvno1's early position raise is too tight. Q/Q, J/J, and T/T are all fine to open. Ditto with A/Q. (Hellmuth adds 9/9, 8/8 and 7/7 to that range)

As far as a caller behind you, if I know a guy I have position on is a consistent folder when he missed the flop (which is 2/3 of the time) then I try to see a lot of flops with him, so I can outplay him in position.

Of course, some people are habitual callers who want to see a flop cheap, and they do this too often, with too wide a range.

If someone keeps chasing you off post-flop, you can check/raise the flop. That'll slow him down.

Completely agree with SP. You need to throw them off of those hands on the flop. I personally love those players that will build my pot up before the flop with anything when I have a decent hand because many times then you just have to make a good sized continuation bet on the flop and they are gone. Sometimes they can also help narrow other players behind them from calling as well because they have a bettor and a caller in front of them, so they will many times fold their marginal hands.

re: Callers Right Behind Me poker

IF u wanna raise, raising 4 times the bet is what most of the poker schools recommend...
and many people including me do the same...
And i think its a smarter move to raise 4times the bigblind, cause it really puts a thought in other ppls mind...
the rule says, rasie 4times the bb + no of peple called the bet...
thats the poker school stratergy mate...

First off, I believe you're referring to tourney play aren't you?

If you think the guy's squeezing light, then why not 4-bet him? I mean you're raising from EP right? "In order to live you must be willing to die"

But yah, for sure it can be annoying if you get a station to your immediate left, one who never 3-bets but only calls & does so with a wide range (which others in LP or blinds will be aware if they're decent at all). Depends upon the situation for me to decide what I'm going to do (early or mid-levels, stack sizes, image, players on the table, etc.).

Tighten up your range so that your 4-bet will be more respected.
