Called a fish but i think its a good strategy, thoughts??

Hi, I was just playing a 10 Seater $2 Sit n Go, the blinds were at 600/300 with about 4 or 5 people left, i had a stack of around 6500 and joint chip leader when i took a hit that put me down to 1500 and consequently almost the short stack, before this i had been playing a patient game, letting everyone else go crazy and just picking my spots with the right hands. As soon as i went down to 1500 with the blinds what they were i pushed all in with K10s and everyone folded, straight after i was dealt 89s and pushed again, again everyone folded, over the next 5 or 6 hands i started pushin with any face card and any connectors because the rest of the table where all folding their blinds to me! once i got back up to a decent stack i calmed down again but i was getting a torrent of fish, idiot etc comments??

The way i see it i was getting respect from the whole table for my all ins, was raking the blinds in and quickly building my stack back up to a decent level, is this a bad strategy? I always think that its better to get ur chips in first and try to steal when you are that short stacked as being blinded out is a weak way to play poker! If anything i think the people that were giving me their blinds unchallenged were the weak ones, Does anyone agree or was i really being a fish/donk/idot etc?

I finished 2nd by the way so i must have been doing something right

Thanks for any advice

You are absolutely right about the massive, huge, ginormous difference between getting your chips in the pot first and calling.

What you gain is (and apologies if you are already aware of the term) called fold equity. Clearly if you call an all in your opponent can't fold

In a SnG this is particularly important and you seem to have played it spot on here.

You are also right about table image being important, though in a $2 SnG you need to be wary about how much credit you give your opponents for noticing these things

Cheers man, yeah i have heard about fold equity but have never really looked into it, am i right in thinking that its the fact that if you get ur chips in first you have 2 chances to win, they fold or they call and u manage to win the hand anyway, whereas obv if ur calling the only chance u've got to win is to actually win the hand???
I agree with the whole table image thing, i dont give people much credit for noticing that in $2 SnG.

No problem. We have a low idiot quotient here and plenty of people happy to give advice without patronising (hopefully).

You're about right in your definition there. It's related to the "gap concept" which is the difference between the value of a hand you need to make a raise and the value of a hand you need to call one.
