| Building my BR after being stacked $10. Advice appreciated A good friend of mine stacked me on PS a few days ago. He gave me $10 to start my grind with. I know I'm limited to 2NL for awhile so I have a few questions. How big should my BR be before moving up to say the 5NL game? Should I try to reach a certain amount of hands in a session? How do you determine win rate? (I see people talking about 5.4/100BB or 11/100BB?? What does this mean) I started grinding yesterday at the 2NL level and after one hr my Br reached $19. I feel confident in my game and believe I can slowly grow my BR but I do not want to get ahead of myself and blow through it as I've read many people have once reaching success. What to do if I feel the urge to move up in levels before my BR allows it? I know this is more of a discipline based question but I want to see what others have to say. Also I know one session of NLHE is nowhere near enough to know if I'm a winning player or not but I would like any help I can get. |

You probably need about $100 to start playing 5NL as it'll give you 20 buyins which should be enough to survive variance if you're a decent player. |

| As a beginner I would suggest $100 before moving up to 5nl which is 20 buyins. As for the winrate question it is shown as 5bb/100. This means that every 100 hands you win 5bb's over all of the hands you have played. So say I play 1000 hands and win a buyin or 100bb's (big blinds) my winrate for those 1000 hands is 10bb/100. Setting a limit for your sessions is a good habit. I like to set time limits like half an hour or an hour. Depending on how many tables you play you could set a limit like 500 or 1000 hands too. |

Thank you, I understand now. I usually play between 2-4 tables depending on how the games are being played after a few orbits. Assuming I play 4 tables constantly, what would be a decent amount of hands to play? Also what type of goal should I set my win rate to? What is a high yet realistic goal? |

Don't try and set a winrate goal, just play your best, make the best decisions you can and the winrate and money will come with it. A good winrate at 2nl is about 10bb/100, but something like 30bb is attainable if you're really good. |

| 20 buy-ins is a safe level before moving up, BUT, when it comes to 2nl to 5nl, I'd say get to $45 in your BR(20 buyins at 2nl, plus one at 5nl), and take a shot at 5nl. At 2nl theres way too many fish doing crazy calls, flush/straight chasing for you to play a normal game, and 5nl is slighter better for someone who knows how to play. As long as you dont go under $40, keep taking shots at 5nl. GL |

| I do not think 10 dollars enough, unless you leave it in there and build your bankroll through freerolls. 100 is good if you want to play 5 doll. buy ins. You are too restricted with only 10 bucks and it's not really worth ur time I think. |

Building a bankroll from nothing or almost nothing is possible. I've done it on one site with a freeroll winning of $2 taking it to somewhere over $200 before being forced to cash it out (the skin was shut down). I'd suggest short-stacking at first to give yourself more protection from the risk of ruin until you get ~ 10 full buyins. |

| You mentioned "what to do when you have the urge to move up a level". Why not just work on adding on more tables? fwiw, I think you'll be able to make a better go of this on Carbon... so get your buddy to misteak you on Carbon for a $10 spot. CC also has freerolls on there & I must say you've milked this thread for a good chunk of the required posts you'll need to play in it |

Nothing wrong with playing ring and freerolls to add to that bankroll. |
