building a bankroll Hello, Thank you for your previous posts. They were very helpful. However, I am trying to turn pro but I am having serious problems with A) building and maintaining a bankroll and B) not going on tilt. My question is simply: What is the best way to build a bankroll ? Cash room, sit and go's, or MTT's? And any other tip you might have to help. Also, what is the best way to maintain this bankroll and still cashout weekly? If you are an experienced pro, and I mean that you are paying all your bills by playing poker, then please respond to this post and help me join you in the professional world

A) Play smart poker B) Don't go on tilt To answer your question, The best form of poker to play in order to build a bankroll is the form you feel most comfortable with and make the most profit from playing. And most importantly practice proper bankroll management. Never EXPECT to cash out weekly, this is just foolish. You have a bankroll online, when you have a nice tourney win or reach a pre-aranged amount you cash out your profit. Poker isn't a job m8 there is no pre-arranged weekly wage, some weeks/months you will live well, others not so well. PS. Before you ask I have played live for a period of months on more than one occasion living and paying my bills from my profit. Hardly a seasoned pro but thats what I can tell you from my experience.

Sorry about this one being a negative, but if you dont even know which games suit you (and by that I mean PAY you) the best, then your not quite pro material yet. How long have you been playing Poker? I'd guess not too long. Nearly every player who has stared across the felt, won a sit-n-go or even cashed a freeroll has had the dreams of moving to the higher levels and never working again. When I started I was terrible, now i'm SLIGHTLY less so, but i've dropped any ideas of ever playing at a professional level. Play for fun, at affordable levels. If you want to be one of the better online players, (most dont even break even...I dont), read up as much as you can and soak up every scrap of knowledge and info you can on the game. There will never be a guaranteed income from poker though. The players who clear enough to feed their family from poker tend to be the guys who grind the ring games for hours every day, its not easy and is nothing like playing for fun/recreationally. BRM is ESSENTIAL and tilting is suicide. You need to turn off the computer as soon as you fel the first effects. Best of luck making some cash from the game, but there is no 'quick-fix' for becoming a pro player, or a winning player. Sorry again, but sometimes people need grounding in this game. If you step into 'pro' games in your current poker mindset, I think you'll be broke fairly soon.

I agree with you, when we see shows on TV like WPT, WSOP, Poker after Dark, with many pros winning million of dollars, and there are always a couple of unknown players, who won their seat with an online satellite, and who go quite far in the tournament, sometimes at a final table, and win a big amount of dollars. So, everyone thinks he can also play well and win a lot of money playing poker. But people that really wins at poker are playing since decades. They have read hundred of books, they don't need any software, as they know most of the odds... And, unless you really earn a lot of money by playing poker, I'm not so sure that people who play poker 7 days a week, to earn the equivalent of a regular job, find poker so fun anymore. So, maybe you should just see poker as a recreative game, and be happy when sometimes you make a big win. But trying to live by poker will require a lot of patience and efforts I guess...

re: building a bankroll poker "I am having serious problems with A) building and maintaining a bankroll and B) not going on tilt." Don't try going pro yet, your question pretty much tells all, you are not ready, and it isn't as easy as it might seem.

Find that game, that you are best at. SNG MTT ring That is the game you should work at... I am great in SNGs, but i am using a bit of how i play in Ring games.. In low level Rings like 2NL you will get chasers, need to know when to lay down a hand.
