Bluffing OOP: Check-Call Flop, Bet Turn. Could one try to play OOP with no hand by check calling flop, and betting turn against a villian with a high C-bet %, and a pretty dry board?

I like doing this, but not bluffing. I do it with hands that are good, but not great. It gets rid of a lot of hands because it looks strong leading out after they lead out on the flop. It also sometimes looks strange to people, iv had some weird plays against me when ive done it. I dont think all player interpret it as strength/ I like for these reasons: - Usually make you look strong. - Allows you to take control of the hand. - Gives you a good idea where your at (helps be oop) I like it Last edited by watchtowel : 19th January 2011 at 10:09 PM.

re: Bluffing OOP: Check-Call Flop, Bet Turn. poker Daniel N's small ball section covers a bit on the topic. He calls it the JohnyChan play because apperently he used it quite well. I think it could be an effective play under the right circumstances. Could get your opponent off balance and not no where he is in the hand or just get him to fold if he was trying to bluff you.

I prefer this to the check raise bluff on the flop because I find that people usually call the flop after c betting and getting raised. If I bluff on the flop and get called, then I need to fire a bigger barrel on the turn. If I just float the flop, and lead out the turn, I can bet smaller than the first scenario and accomplish the same effect. If I lead out the turn and get raised, then I just muck. PS, of course, I only do this if I feel villain is weak... betting two overcards or ace high, etc.
