blinds and antes

just played in a tourney on full tilt. finished 19th for 250 dollars. Anyway, my question is, when the blinds and antes create huge pots preflop what range of hands do you usually raise with when the action is folded around to you.

I played fairked loose and raised with almost anywith on the button any suited or connecting cards.

from the cut off usually any suited qs ks or aces.

from anywhere else, usually anything from q 10 upwards.

from under the gun, usually a10 upwards.

Is this range a bit too loose or is it right. just want to get people opinions on this. any replys appreciated!!!

This sounds like the right range for anywhere in the last 50 people or so.

A bit too loose for anything before the top 10%, and a bit too tight for final table play. Obviously, you should be watching the table but by this point in the tourney the play is usually about the same.

Seems pretty good though.

If I'm on the button, or small blind, I will raise with napkins. UTG, my range is pretty nitty (99+, AQ+). Position matters way too much in tournaments.

Absolutely my hand variance widens at this point in a tourny. Although, UTG and very early positions I still play rather tightly.

I think you need to make the pattern inconsistent! Sometimes raise with nothings and sometime check with good hands. If you play always the same your opponents will read you and make the right calls in front of your play.
To me I raise only on really good hands as a high raise might cause an opponent to go all in - So you need to ask yourself on what hands are you willing to call that all in bet.

thanks for the replys!!! was pretty sure i had the right hand ranges. some people really tighten up as the bubble comes closer. When it comes to bubble i always try to identify the people who are just playing for the money and who is playing for the win.

After the bubble i always tighten up. Does anyone else think this is a good idea? alot of ppl do start to open up after the bubble has burst...

your fine

sounds like u did fine and dont need our advice.....like i hvae said many times....poker is situational and we can tell u a definite answer to your question....but what u posted isnt a bad general rule.....but there may be times u have to go against those rules.....so pick your spots wisely and know when to hold em and know when to fold em .....nice place though...not bad....keep it up and see u at the tables.

re: blinds and antes poker

trying to pick off the blinds is one thing. id say do it from the cut off even, not just on the button. dont try it too much though cause good players will pick up on it. it can work in ur favor to do it with junk sometimes, have someone call with a middle pair maybe like poc 6's and then u can pressure them.
