Betting and Folding to establish an image,

so...the other day i was playing a MTT,,doing fairly well with an above average chip stack when i get moved to a new table and notice a larger chip stack is pushing the table around..Calling every hand and raising it..over and over again,,I had 12k villian had 18k with average being 8k..so i decided to make some calls,,call some of his raises with marginal hands trying to hit a flop,,this went on for a bit,,and i thought,,well,,this guy is going to think im a pure donk if i keep this up,,,so i did,,and gave up around 6k of my chips when i hit the flop so,,i check,,he raises,,i reraise,,and so on till had about crippled the guy,,took 12k from him in one hand..he then went on tilt and i took the rest of his chips,,made a few dollars in the end by the way....I'd never really considered donking off a portion of my stack as a real stragety,,it just sort of came up and worked I dont believe its a great stragety,,,but when you have the chips,,are on a new table,,???,,,what do ya'll think,,,if i had not hit I would not have been able to keep that up and would have had to tighten up more than i like..mabey this only works on the maniacs who have built up a stack without any reason or rhyme??? thoughts?

Sacrificing chips for an image is rarely a good idea.

Table image is hugely important, but your chips are more important. Be aware of your table image rather than trying to manipulate it, it'll make you more money.

My opinion is that you got lucky, you caught cards rather thank donking off chips but more often than not you're not going to catch cards.

You also said "I check, he raises,,i reraise"... you were out of position (at least in that hand). If you're going to play back at these guys, do it from position. Also, if you're going to play back at them, raise them pre-flop. Trying to catch a flop is an expensive hobby, you're not going to hit very often and when you do you're sometimes still going to be dominated. Pre-flop, raise the guy who's trying to run over the table, the last thing he wants is for you to stand up to him when you have position (if you don't have position, don't play back at him at all).

Are you sure you took 12K off him?

If you start with 12K, lose 6K and then stack off you will win a pot of 12K thus taking only 6K from the villain.

This brings you back to a stack of 12K.. which is exactly where you started.

I prefer the image of a tight player. I will fold alot of hands early. We are talking sNg here. Hopefully the table sees how tight I'm playing. Then when the bllinds go up I do my best work. I rarely get involved in a big pot in the first 3-4 levels online. Then when the blinds are respectable I will raise with almost anyhand, almost always I continuation bet. If I get a call I then slow way down, however if I get a good feel I will reraise and steal the pot right there.

The players who are always loose, and playing every hand, it seems like they fool around to much, plus the risk is huge, if you go crazy with a bluff you can find yourself out of the tournament very quickly.

I really dont like that strategy too many times it will lose u fold equity when you need it and you will need it late in the tournament i play a very tight game and late in tourney im almost always able to raise any 2 from dealer and cut off and pick off a pot if i find myself a few blinds short.
