| Best Low-Limit Hold'em Book (or site)? I play poker in casino's either in CT or down in NJ (atlantic city). I have played on and off for a few years so I stick to the very low limit tables, usually the lowest they offer. I was wondering if there is a book out there that someone can suggest I read to learn how to best win at a low limit Hold'em Table. Or maybe a Web Site that someone can suggest too. Anyone that can help would be great!! |

| Small Stakes No limit Holdem by Ed Miller if your talking No Limit. He describes how a beginner can get a feel for the game and hold his own until he can get more experience by starting with a very small stacks with the idea of getting most or all of your money in either preflop or on the flop with the best hand to avoid the tougher decisions on later streets. This will help to level the playing field against the more experienced players until hopefully you can catch on and improve before you go broke or get discouraged. |

Also consider live specific stuff, like Bart Hanson's podcast on DC (all his old episodes are free from link below). He plays 5/10 and 10/20 but his stuff applies to beating live recreational players at all levels imo. https://www.deucescracked.com/podcasts/deuceplays |

OK, it sounded "low limit" maybe like small stakes which could mean no limit. But you mean specifically limit games with low stakes, I am assuming. There was a book - I think from Ed Miller et al, but it is pretty old so dont think it would apply anymore. (I think "Winning big at small stake holdem) and it was geared for limit. But I dont know much about that anyway, so take my offering with a grain of salt. |

| I think fletchdad is referring to Small Stakes Hold'Em: Winning Big with Expert play by Sklansky,Miller and Mason. Yeah it is an old book and a beginners beginner book, but a beginners got to start at the beginning.(Hope thats not to many begins). It only a starting point for basic concepts and suggestions for starting hands, etc. |

| Harrington on Holdem, these books have had more influence on my play than anything I have ever read. Don't even have to buy them, (yes I'm cheap) most libraries have community pacts where you can get them from neighboring area libraries. His whole thinking is tight play, and sizing your bets for each situation, which I find works wonders on-line. Using his thinking, a 4X BB in one hand, is often more effective than a 6X BB in the same hand.....Just love his thinking. He also believes any bet less than the pot is a waste of time in most situations. If you want a more aggressive approach try any of the Killer Poker series by John Vorhous--great reading and very entertaining. |

| "Hold'Em Poker for Advanced Players" by David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth. this is by far the best limit hold'em book imo. forget about the notion that an old limit holdem book has no value. limit is a mathematical game and math is timeless. this book can and will improve your winrate but don't expect to become a profitable player if your playing $1/$2 limit in a casino. the rake is very hard to over come. | re: Poker & Best Low-Limit Hold'em Book (or site)? I'm also trying to learn the limit holdem these days. I like pokerstrategy.com articles on Limit holdem. I've read limit holdem section of Super System and found it to be very helpful. I don't have much experience playing with real players so at the moment i'm practicing against Poker Acedemy Pro bots and beating them very easily but don't know if these bots are playing a decent game compared to real life players. |
