There's no ideal range. The more the better. Move up based on BR not winrate (provided winrate is positive). Any positive winrate is good, just don't get attached to any short term results. Only consider your winrate reliable when you start playing a few thousand hands without changing your overall winrate noticably. BB/hr is the best way to measure your success.

I would imagine that yout BB/hr is going to start off very high in small games, but as you move up, it will drop off, but the actually money should increase. I wouldn't say there is a set target, because you should be trying to win an infinite amount every time you play, but as stakes increase, you shouldn't get caught up if your only winning 2 or 1 an hour, 1 or 2 big bets an hour in a 10/20 game is more than what most people make at their full time jobs.

in the full tilt poker academy there is a video by howard lederer on this. he says that at the lower stakes games a good player will be beating them at around 3 BB per 100 hands, but it never hurts to have more. as the stakes go up though, the win rate will go down. between 1-2 is good for the lower high stakes games as herbish said. if you go even higher though even showing well less than 1 will still show you a substantial profit. so it all depends on what level you are playing

Maybe this is a dumb question, but when are these big blinds/100 or pt big bets/100? I see people use these interchangably (I think) and am not sure if the lowercase "bb" always means one thing, while "BB" always means another. I'm a micro grinder too and am curious to know for the same reason. Since big blinds are half as much as PokerTracker Big Bets, it might be nice to know.

I always get confused also when i see the bb or BB because im not sure which one it is. when you play limit the bet on the turn and river is twice as much as it is preflop and on the flop. this is what the Big Bet/ 100 is. Big Blinds/ 100 is the larger blind you put in preflop. this will always be half of the Big Bets/ 100. it doesnt matter which one you use but to not get confused you should pick one and stick with it.

I though bb/100 was big blinds and ptBB/100 was big bets. The discrepancy is because in limit poker it is customary to measure winrate in big bets and in no limit in big blinds. I also think holdem-manager defaults to big blinds and poker tracker to big bets but I could be wrong because I don't own poker tracker. p.s. I aim for 5bb/100 over a 20k hand sample to decide whether I am "beating" a level. Anything positive is of course good.

Yeah but the problem is that caps/lower case apparently DOES matter (BB = bets, bb = blinds) for a lot of posters, and yet many people seems to use it indiscriminately. The only things that's certain is when they use ptbb (obviously). But I'm wondering about what I should assume people mean when reading posts by Average Joe in this forum.

As for OP, any thing above 0bb is good since a majority of players are losers... |
