What game, limit or no limit? What are your opponents like? What's your table image? What is your exact position? What's been the action so far?

There are many, many variables, so your question as asked is basically unanswerable. My personal opinion is that, in general, people in low limit poker way overplay AK and don't give near enough consideration to reverse implied odds. *shrug*

I have been faced with a 3 bet with big slick many times. I have folded it pre-flop and post-flop and I have also shoved with it pre-flop and post-flop.

As Sysvr4 says, there are too many factors in your scenario that need to be addressed, so you can't necessarily address it generically. Of most importance IMO are (in no particular order):

1) What are the range of hands your opponent is capable of 3 betting with in his/her current position?
2) What are the pot odds offering me?

After you answer those two questions, you'll likely have a better idea of what to do.

4bet is generally going to be the play.If they are super tight and 3bet you then folding is probably best since you're oop.
If you're in position then maybe taking a flop would be OK but possibly not. Another spot you might look to not go crazy w/ it even if its against a non-nit is if you open it UTG and the next player or 2 3bets you.
Everyone knows that you opening UTG = strong so if they're 3betting you they have to be really strong as well.

Also, stack sizes can factor in. If they are short (I can't really define short, but I'll go w/ 50BB or less) then I'd probably just 4bet/call vs about anyone.

re: AK OOP facing 3bet poker

If they play well and it's not a low stake then I would put them on a high pocket pair. If it's not too much more to call, then I would and see a flop, bcuz if they have queens or jacks you will get paid off usually. You generally have to feel the table out, if i'ts been generally tight, usually around 25%vpip or lower then a 3bet usually means a pair and usually a high one. If you 4bet and are raised that is your tell tail sign he has a high pocket pair, but that is an expensive piece of information. Late in the tournament if your stack is somewhat healthy, you can always wait for another hand. Like I said it's all about knowing your opponent, and his perceived range, would he 3 bet with AQ or AJ? If you think so, call. another tell is sometimes people will 3bet and if a high card hits they will bet the pot incase it hit you, called sliders. In the end it's 50/50 weather he's got a high pair or overs such as AQ. I would say your shot is about 50/50 too.

Generally speaking lacking info:

You need to be thinking right away what your opps range is for calling the pfr. Is he tight? Loose? Calling station? Pos. player?

If he's a position player, he's probably 3 betting light.

If he's a Calling Station - he probably has a strong hand because calling station normally limp and call, not raise.

If he's tight then what is his range? If he's vpip is low, I might fold it. Otherwise I'm seeing a flop and hoping to out flop him and stack him.

If he's loose, I might just call or do a nice size reraise.

On the flop: If it's a wet board against the calling station or tight player, I'm probably check/folding.

If flop is wet/dry against the loose player or pos player, I'm probably betting into him, maybe 3/4 pot - whether I hit or not. At this point against these players, your AK is probably the best hand.

Any hands you are not sure of, post them in the HH for review, it is really helpful.
