advise please

What is the best book for Ring games? I can sit down and do great all day at STT's, better than average on buy in MTT's but lately rings have been giving me trouble. There always seems to be one suck out after another so I need to change my strategy to get past this. Instead of whining about bad beats like we all see too often I'd rather get down to the root of the problem and fix it.

I know you guys have read about everything in print and I'll happily take your advice on what the very best book is on the topic of Ring games.

Well, Chuck's 10K thread pretty much covers the essentials, I think.

Other than that, the Miller/Sklansky book is good, as is the Harrington ones I'm just finishing.

Beyond that, the basics are the same as any tourney book. I haven't read any other cash game books that I'd recommend.

Sorry, I havent read any books on that Im afraid im more of a what my guts tellign me kind of a player but maybe I should.. probably be very beneficial so thanx for pointing that out

The Harrington on Cash series so far seems like the cash game bible to me (only just finishing vol 1), and Professionl NLHE by Ed Miller is also supposed to be great.

Im a big fan of Harrington on Cash so far, I am only about a quarter into Vol 2 but so far I like it even better than the first one. I would check those out.

Read through AlienGenius' library thread. He has more poker books the 2+2. My 2 cents; I liked the Harrington books and PNL.

After reading your articles I have only one more question for ya Chuck, any plans on putting your knowledge into book form? You certainly have the knack for both the game and more importantly for writting to be a sucessfull author.

I have a rather large library myself but I have yet to start collecting books on poker. Mostly books on Aviation, wildlife and skilled crafts ( Blacksmithing to Bowyer topics and such)


Thanks for the imput guys, gives me a great starting point. I'll pick up Harrington's and of course I'll pick up some by our newest CC member too as soon as I get a chance. I'm kind of out in the sticks, about 1.5 hours from the nearest decent book store, Barnes and Nobles.

So I prefer to have the object I buy in hand, to check it out and read a bit before I purchase, no big deal. While I'm there I usualy check out all of the books on the topic as well as several other topics. Kind of nice to sit back with a cup of coffee, check things out then purchase what I want and walk out the door with it. To top it all off I always find a few great books they have up on a blow out sale while I'm there.

In this part of the world is a long drive anywhere...beats being in a city, shoulder to shoulder people every day, imho. Haven't locked my car in years, no need because there is virtually no crime.

If your gonna play ring, get Poker Tracker, nuff said.

Theory of Poker by David Sklansky is a really good book... takes you through logical analysis of how to think about poker and your actions...amazing book I thought. I would say it leans more toward cash games than tournaments, but its just solid book for anyone playing any type of poker.

I use the software, didn't know there was such a book.....
