Adjusting to the play of the table

I was just playing in a cash game last night and it made me think about playing a certain strategy more then ever. Many poker players who have been playing for a long time had given me this advice and now I definitely see why they were telling me it. Basically, you want to adjust your game according to how everybody is playing at your table and play completely the opposite. For example, if the table you are playing is a loose table with alot of aggresive players who are constantly betting and raising, then simply play real tight. Therefore if your in a hand say 3 ways to the flop and you flop monster and of course the other players involved in the hand are going to be betting into you. Just sit back and trap hoping to build a big pot and most certainly take it down. On the opposite of that, if the table is playing real tight, then mix your game up to play extremely aggresive. Whether it's a cash game or tournament, simply raising alot of pots preflop and just taking the blinds and antes is going to build up in your stack. It's better to win a small pot then to lose a big pot that's for sure. I'm sure alot of you have already heard this before, but was just reassuring it and using this strategy last night paid off for me in my pockets lol. As always GL at the tables...Mikey

Without really paying that much attention, this is what I do in a ring game. I don't really do it that much in tourneys because the table can change so much at any given time.

So what do you do when there's mixed play at the tables? How do you play when you've got 3 or 4 tight players and 3 or 4 loose players?

Yeah, that's the tricky one. What then? And then when each of those groups start adjusting their games, that mixes it up even more.

yea thats exactly the strategy you are suppose to employ... you play your opponent's tendencies... im sure you'll make profit in the long run if you do this continuously in ring games..
