To add on or not to add on?

At the end of the first hour, I'm sitting in first place. Should I add-on? At the time I wasn't sure what to do and chose not to which worked out only because I had to leave before the end of the tourney. What should I have done?

Obviously another 1500 chips certainly shouldn't factor into the outcome. Save the dollar.

for some reason i am always compelled to add on but it never really makes much difference....i look at it this way though: you are trying to accumulate the most chips possible, so adding on would help that out, but since it will not be a significant part of your stack that will be added on, there is no real reason

Then why put the extra money in? Seems like a waste, to me.

Last week I was playing a $1 rebuy game. I watched 1 guy at my table double rebuy 7 times. than basically give the chip to one player (i guess they knew each other). The other player would go all in and this guy would call with 10-6o or 9-2o. It wasn't like he went all in first and was trying to bluff. needless to say I didn't rebuy or add on and will not play another rebuy tourny.

Im trying to recall where i read, but i think it was by Annie, and her strategy, which i have adopted is have ur buyin, one rebuy and one addon for the tourney. If the chip leader has 10x more chips then you at break, add on...if not then dont add on....

of course these were for like 60$+ B,RB,A trnys so any less ($1 ) dont think its gonna make much a difference

how did u finish??

add on

Yes always add on its war, the more chips the more firepower, guys could double up in a heart beat, unless you got 3x the average during which is most likley no going to happen..........

Personally sitting with the chip lead I think it would be silly to take an add.

My rule for re-buy is if I'm sitting under the average stack I'll add, if I'm above it I don't bother. Generally speaking the additional chips aren't going to make a significant difference imo.

If you're on Absolute Poker, I suggest just paying the extra $18.99 and getting the hole-card cam. Probably helps more than any add-on ever will.

That would be sweet to pay extra for an online hole card cam...

Quite interesting indeed...

Double add-on. If you need good reasons, search Greg Raymers posts about adding on at you-know-what-site. Sorry; I hate referring to the big-name forums, but they really do have a wealth of info.

Basically unless you always add on unless you're so short stacked that you have little to no chance of cashing or winning with or without the add on, you're so big stacked that it won't matter (like 100K in this instance), or you can't afford it, which you should be able to.

I agree with Chuck. If you don't add-on, and 2nd and 3rd decide to double add-on, you've just relinquished the chiplead, and knocked yourself down to 3rd. Poker is all about exploiting your advantages...ALWAYS add-on!

I agree with the always adding-on. Get every chip you can, could make a big different if things start going bad.
