AA in the SB and i got nailed... Thoughts?

Hey,

Playing last night on Poker Syndicate, and I saw an unusual play, but liked it alot...wanted to see thoughts of people.

I raised with 1010 in middle position. The SB just called my raise with AA. and BB called. The flop came down 972.

SB checks.
BB checks.
I bet and am reraised by BB, and then I cap it.
Turn comes 8. I bet reraised and call...river another ace, i check and call.

SB turned over aces and I was schocked...he totally fooled me by just calling the raise, and then knowing I would bet, raised me on flop...

thoughts?

Yeah, what was your hand? What were the chipstack amounts? Was this limit or no-limit?

1) He had pocket Tens
2) Doesn't really matter because of #3
3) Limit Hold'Em

I've never been a fan of slowplaying Aces... especially in limit. I mean look, the guy let you catch a straight-draw on the turn. You had 10 outs on the river. He's gonna get them Aces busted quite frequently playing like that

I don't like the play by the SB here. I would never slowplay AA under any circumstance because I know the value of the hand drops drastically when the flop hits. Too many bad things can happen with AA, so you need to maximize the value of the hand preflop and then try to bet your opponent out post flop so that you can avoid confrontation where 2 pair, sets, straights, and flushes would beat you. Like I said, I don't like the play by the SB, but it was good enough to beat you in this case. I guess you have to rely on your read on the player, but you had to know that you were beat on the river.

To answer your question, it wasn't wise to slowplay the pocket Aces. He probably would have won more money if he played them agressively. I can't see folding Pocket Tens with all cards lower than 10 on the board before the river. Maybe on the river, but by that point you would only have to call one more bet. I think you would have lost anyway (unless you have a good read on this particular player) but losing more money.

As shown in another thread...Raising Pre-flop 6x BB is mandatory with, I believe, pocket J's and above. Some people think they have the holy grail in their hands with pocket A's & will wait until the flop to make a donk all-in move. He would have called you the whole way, probably no matter what came up on the board...It was just luck you didn't hit trips...He was playing with fire.

...but then again, so were you. You were shocked...I voted "good play", but in reality, you should have folded after THAT flop hit, he re-raised you, and you were wondering what the hellz he was doing...
