85 dollar Bankroll
OK well heres my situation,
i have blown my bankrolls before ( i generally deposit between 50 and 100) but well i have had enough of that and now want to make some money. I play Poker For Tournaments thats what i live for. But i also am not that good at tournaments yet. What I am asking for is peoples opinion on what they would do if they were given 85 dollars and wanted to turn that lets say for now into 150. How would you do it? SitnGo's heads up sitngos' I have tried cash games and i do very well when i buy in for the full amount. Although when that person hits their 2 outer or runner runner it cripples me and my bankroll. I generally Multi Table cash games and do well until those bad beats(i know they aren't avoidable im not complaining.) Should i Maybe multi table cash games but buy in for less. I Play on full tilt so on the 10 max should i buy in for like 2 dollars each to stay with bankroll managment or no go for the full buy in. I know this post is confusing (most of my posts are) but basically i want to get some ideas of how I should build my bankroll so i can get up to higher level tournament play. |

I wouldnt recommend buying in for 2 dollars at 10max. When you do hit your hand you will not win very much at all and I find it hard to play very shortstacked in ring games. Since you do not have a BR to really play 10max yet I would suggest playing some 2-3 dollar SnGs. It might take awhile to reach 150, but you will not have to worry about bad beats as they will cost you very little. If you do not want to go that low, you could start out trying 5 dollar SnGs, but you must be prepared to drop down in limits if you lose a bunch in a row.
You could try 10max buying in for the full amount, but you must be prepared to go bust if you hit a really bad run. If you are a good player at 10max I think you would have to hit an extremely bad run to go broke, as long as u just play a TAG game. |

and although i dont have poker tracker i do write down my statistics for cash games and if i dont get a bad beat i average around 12 - 14 dollars an hour .(still not enough though when u get 20 dollars loss on a bad beat each hour) |

I just discovered 7 card stud, imo its the easiest game to build up a bankroll, way easier than texas hold em if your not
exclusive. You can also play $1/$2 tables because there arent any blinds, if your selective with your hands you can make around $40 an hour which is the rate im now going at and im a pretty average player, I would only make a fraction of this in nlhe. |

I play at Partypoker at the moment and have done so for a few months now.
A little less than 3 months ago I had a bankroll there of $32. I have built my bankroll up slowly setting little goals along the way to were it now sits at $378. The strategy I have used is playing SNG's only and until the last few weeks only ever one SNG at a time, so I could really concentrate. At fiirst I only played the $3 ones until my bankroll grew but still never sat down at a table for more than 5% of my BR. when playing SNG's I would sit very very tight until 4 people were eliminated (became 6 handed), then loosen up in late position and become slightly looser with every elimination until heads up where I would push with almost any two cards. Hope this helps even a little |

ya i think im gonna play mainly sitngo's and once i get a larger bankroll move to cash games. I know i have the game to get profit in Cash games but my bankroll can not handle the badbeats. so once i am able to play the cash games without worrying about losing my BR i will progress but thanks to everyone im gonna combine most of the advice but mainly stick with sitngo's.

you should start off with $5 sng then $10 when you have enough confident and bankroll. I've won $82 freeroll on bodog last month and now have $700. Im planning to go higher stakes sngs. GL.

I have about a 40 dollar bank roll right now. I tried playing the .05/.10 tables, buying in at 4 bucks, and I must agree that it is really, really, really hard to turn a big profit over the long run when you dont have a lot to use to win. Granted, I need to improve my game when I'm up 4-5 bucks (generally when this happens i try to stay a bit loose and loose to the new comers =\) but I must say there's a lot of wisdom in the words of those people who say you need to buy in at 10 max for those tables.
Sng's are great because if I place in the money after a 25-45 min tournament, I get either .55 cent profit for 3rd, a 1.35 profit for second, and a 3.25 profit for 1st (I believe I remember those values right). I play the 1+.25 sng's, and it's generally the turbo, 9 man hold'em. The profit for 3rd and even second isn't all that appealing, but if you get a no-money loss in one, all it takes is a 2nd place finish to earn that back plus an extra .10 cents to make you feel good . I'll move to the higher SnG's later, but i've noticed from seeing my friend play them that even the 2 dollar sng's are a whole different monster (but i only saw him play 2-3 games). |

I don't think playing 1+.25 sng's are a very good idea if you want to build up your bankroll, because the entry fee is just way to high. Also the rake and competition on Full Tilt are higher then most other sites. The rake is either 10 or 11% on 0,05/0,1 NL, which is just to high to make a decent profit imo. And the competition is very thight. I've build up my BR from 0 to 1400 only by playing 10NL but on FTP I've only lost money (both because of the rake and a long run of cold decks and outdraws).
I believe everest poker has 1+0.1 sng's for 10 people, so you might want to try your luck there because of the low fee. |

I started on Poker Stars today with 70 bucks ... after 6 hours I now have $141.48
Would that be considered poor or average for that bank roll? I have been playing ring games so far ... might venture into a tournament if the bank roll doubles again. What level buy in would be good for that? or even a sit and go? Thanks in advance. PS Welley had a great bankroll management post does anyone have the link |

This is my experience only but I've found that the best way to increase a small bankroll is to:
a) Join a poker site that offers good rake-point freerolls. Also make sure the site gives you points if you fold pre-flop on cash-games b) play loads of cash-game poker at low level NL/PL (e.g 10c/20c) and play sensibly. Over-tight is better than over-aggressive with such a small bankroll. Players at this level can be poor so you should still gain. Omaha is better as there is less variance and those Hi/Lo pots can get big meaning more points. c) Play in those freerolls where you can start to enjoy poker with no risk I turned $100 into $500 with this approach. There may be better ways though. |

I play on Pokerstars, so my advice applies to that site. I would start multitabling 10NL (0.02c/0.05c) tables buying in for 5$. Grind there till you reach 200$, then move to 10NL 0.05c/0.10c table and buy in full, then move to 25NL (0.10c/0.25c) tables.
Further move up to 50NL with 1200$ and 100NL with 3000$. That`s how I did it. There`s no fast way up. Treat the money the same regardless if it is a 2$ pot or when you have more money a 200$ pot. GL Note: I don`t really play tourneys or SNgs, so I don`t know if it is faster/better to start with the small 5$ buy in sngs. |
