7 card stud hi - loosening up your game
I very rarely play this game but i am starting to get into it more and more. I have a good idea of what represents a premium hand in pretty much all situations, but I find that I have trouble completing the bring in, even if I am the last player, if I do not have a pair, a flush draw or a straight draw: ie. I do not have a hand that will easily make trips or better. I will fold hands such as (K10)A if 2 face cards are at the door (let's say an Ace and a Jack). Is this correct ? Right now, at the lower stakes, it pretty much is okay since the antes and bring-ins are minuscule compared to what you can gain by only playing the nuts (player don't respect your raises and will chase all the way to the river), but I don't want to miss on good opportunities.
At the same time, if I'm not comfortable enough to chase a two pairs to 5th street, I may end up folding a lot and maybe thus wasting the small bets that I have already invested in the pot. I feel I'm in a dilemma, either I strat to bleed away small bets, either I play one hand every 20 minutes and miss on the (I have a pair of Jacks to the river) fishies . |
