$5 double up SnG good or bad for a small BR? The top five players out of ten double up. Less entry fees it's $4.60 profit on a $5 investment. See, I'm thinking it should be good. I mean, you just have to be half-good to win right? I just observed one and it played mad-tight until the bubble, then someone called, lost, and mucked. I really wish I knew what she mucked, winner had A-high flush, was holding A of diamonds, so I'm guessing the loser of that hand and yes loser of $5 had a lower flush. After that everyone just started going all-in really fast until there was a lucky winner. Lucky since it was just hurry up and get it over with. I wonder, is there even a strategy when it's just sit tight until 5 fools bust themselves out? To be fair, one might not have been a fool, just unlucky, but the others were doing the pre-flop all-in thing as though there was some bigger prize at the top. There wasn't. So a couple did that and the other two were complete calling stations, and their chips were quickly and easily drained. Realistically, you could play nothing but KK through JJ without pre-flop pushing and still come out smelling like a rose, or at least $4.60 cents richer and eventually you could use your winnings to buy some Tea Rose Eau De Parfum which would leave you smelling like the aforementioned rose. Heck one guy just played two orbits, didn't win much in either and sat out. I dunno, just looks like easy money to me.

I don't think I've ever seen this type of SnG before. What plac offers this? I'd think it is only a good deal if you are a mediocre SnG player. If you are decent you can place top 3 or better quite often and probably make more playing that type of SnG instead as they pay out better. ~H

Yeah what site are u playing on? and also if you are a halfway decent SNG player there is so much more to be made by playing games where a smaller % of people get paid and more than just doubling up. I actually think this idea for SNG strategy is quite awful

re: $5 double up SnG good or bad for a small BR? poker It's at Cake. I only played a few of their $1 SnG's. In the 10 seaters I placed in the top two, flip-flopping between first and second. In the 30 seaters I busted out relatively early, but I think it was because I was projecting what I would do onto my opponents. That's always bad. So I didn't deserve to win in those. Lately I've been playing FR taking the minimum and waiting til I double up or better. It's treating me well at the moment. Oh but here's what I'm thinking, I'm not the greatest at multi-tabling. If I can open one of these double up SnG's at the same time as focusing most of my attention and energy on a full ring game, it can sort of make money on it's own with a minimum of effort.

i just started playing at cake poker and i would have to say that every game i have played so far is very beatable. i've been playing strictly heads up matches and out of 7 i have played i've only lost one. and the ring games are just as soft. got to say this is by far the best i have done at any site.

Earlier I decided to risk $4 out of curiosity. I wanted to see what the .10/.20 table plays like before grinding away at even lower stakes. I could have left when I hit a little over $8, but it was a pretty soft table. It bordered on Loose/Passive. I stayed out of curiosity and left with over $12 but I was being careful to hang on to the majority of my winnings from the hand that put me over $8(just one hand for that plus I got to keep my BB pretty often). That hand I won because my opponent was in the BB and picked the wrong time to defend it... I'm not planning to play the .10/.20 tables regularly until my BR can handle it, but I had fun and it was pretty easy money save for a race when my QQ was up against JJ. Of course QQ dominates JJ pre-flop, and I felt like a jerk just calling, so when JJ re-raised me I shipped. I'd feel like an idiot if JJ had been AA but it wasn't. Even with the dominance there was still a chance the villain would win so it was a bit of a nail biter until the river let me win. |
