other than that, there hasn't been too much 5 card draw discussion here. I assume discussion will pick up a little now that it is becoming available on more and more sites.

Seems 5 card draw is the new hotness here at CC. A few of us are picking it up so we should be able to help one another.

Edit: I'll throw out a hypothetical.

You are first to act after the initial betting. You have 9c 9h 2c Ac 5h. What are you going to discard and why?

Were there raisers? How many are in the pot now? Can you bluff these players or will they cal down with any pair? Have you had showdowns where you drew 2 and only shown one pair, making it obvious you are holding a kicker? Or, the opposite, when you have shown down after throwing 2 was it a set? See, this game is a little more complicated that most people believe.

Generally, I throw 3 with a pair since sets are more likely to win then 2 pair plus even if you throw 3 you may still get 2 pair. I usually only save a kicker if I plan on bluffing after the draw representing a set or better.

I believe your odds of "improving" your pair is better throwing 3 then keeping a kicker and throwing 2. But like everything in poker nothing is hard and fast, it's good to mix up your game andf occasionally keep a kicker but generally draw 3.

personally im not in the hnd unless blind with this hand but i would chuck to leave 3 clubs as you dont really want to be playing 2 pr on the 9 unless it is a or k with it so unless you hit the 9 you are not gonna be able to do much post flop any how

That's why I asked about the action. I might play this hand for a set if it's only one small bet any raises and the least you are facing is Pocket Ks or Aces, which makes you a big underdog.

Almost all 5 card draw games are limit, sometimes pot limit, I've never seen a no-limit 5 card draw game. Not saying they don't exist, but if there was one I wouldn't play it. If it was a standard limit game and there was a raise and reraise I would probably 3-bet to try to force out the first raiser and go heads up against the reraiser. Since the action is in front of you, you can wait to see how many cards the other player(s) take before deciding on how many cards I draw.

5-card draw? absolutly. You have almost no information and you can have a great hand and be dominated easily with absolutly no idea since the range of holdings can be anything from a pair of 2s to a straight flush and all you know is how many cards villan drew. To me, in order to play no-limit you have to have information or it's a crap shoot. With holdem you have info i.e. the 5 cards on the board. For instance even preflop, if you have AA in holdem you know you have the best hand, if you have AAA in draw you might be dominated or you might have way the best hand, you just have no way of knowing. If someone pushes all-in do you call with AAA or fold? Villan could be pushing with 2 pair or a lesser set or he could have a made straight or flush, you just have no way of telling.

I've never played no-limit draw but I imagine there has to be wild swings. I prefer out playing my opponents rather than play ing a crab shoot. And out playing means also being able to save bets as well as winning extra bets. That's the key to limit.

Of course you may like the action, in which case go for it.

This would be average for the one game I have played.

Would you only draw to a flush with 1 card?
