3-bet sizing @ 20NL

Talking about 6max. I'm getting frustrated that the premium hands I 3-bet with get folded so much, so I was wondering - is it a good idea to make the value 3-bet size about twice the raise, instead of ~3x I always do now, in the hope of getting called by the raiser with a high fold to 3-bet %?

And I could make light 3-bets the regular 3xbet size, to get them to fold more. Of course with some balancing if needed, don't think too much would be needed against most players, probably it would be against the regs.

I'm not sure you even need any balance, especially at this limit... But 3-betting more as a bluff is the correct adjustment to your opponents folding to a lot of 3-bets. 3-betting your premium hands smaller is *not* the correct adjustment.

Argument: If they're folding a lot, your bluffs are more likely to work, and you will profit.

Seriously, this isn't rocket science. If they're folding to a ton of 3-bets, then do it as a bluff and take their money.

Yeah, I've been trying to do that for a while, but it seems most times I 3-bet light or with air I get called, and most I do it with monsters I get folds. Very frustrating!

You can't have a problem with people folding to your 3bets for value too often AND have a problem with people calling your light 3bets too often. - If you do, you're either doing something really obvious (raising different amounts, for example) or you're not being obective in your analysis of your problem (i.e. you feel like they always call or fold when they actually don't).

If you have the first problem, 3bet light more often. If you have the second problem, 3bet light less often.


Also, consider altering your sizing depending on whether you're in position or out of position. When the two are such different situations with drastically different ranges (both yours and villains) it seems shortsighted to be raising the same amount.
Somewhere in the ballpark of 4x OOP and 3x IP makes sense.
Personally I raise somewhere between 4x and 3x when OOP (depending on villains position/playing style) and almost always 2.5x IP.

That seems like a good idea so I'll make a conscious effort to try that. I might be 3-betting too big IP . Anyways today was the first day without horrible variation, so getting hopeful

Then stop sucking at poker? If you're always getting the opposite result you want, the only explanation is that you suck :P
