2NL how much to raise preflop?

It seems that raising to 3BB (6c) is ineffective at 2NL at FT.

Is raising to 4BB more effective? Or should it be even higher?

I raise with 10 10 to 3bb, got called by SB.

Flop's 227. I didn't believe he had a 2 so I didn't back down from his aggression. He had 28 suited and I lost my stack.

Wondering if I bumped the raise up, if he might have folded.

that situation is good. you want people calling your raise with 82s.

to answer your question, at least 5 or 6 bb. As much as they will call basically. a lot of them wont call you at first, but when you keep doing this their adjustment will be to start calling, rather than 3bet or playing better hands.

I think you can profitably base your raise sizes on the strength of your hand, especially against the fish. I tend to raise between 4 and 6BB at 2nl.

NO...a set is a set...he probably would have gone all the way....and pushed late...costing you more!

If he bets 2/8 .....anything can happen!

my default open raise @ 2nl is 5xbb (.10) except on the button where I bet pot (.07)

If there is a real fish or maniac at the table I raise 10xbb.

If there are 3 or more limpers and I want to raise I usually pop it for 10xbb.

My usual 3bet is 4x the open raise.

By raising more you play fewer MW pots and create more favorable SPRs for your overpairs.

Thats true.
I often raise with _EVERY_ hand 3Bbs, but it depends sometimes on aggression of the tabble. If it is rly aggressive table, you should raise 4-6bbs.

True but for every time he beats your AA with T4 he will lose 86 times and you will win the rest. You want those guys to call and hard as it is to accept this:

Why? Because just as you will remember this hand for a long time, so will he and maybe now T4 becomes his 'favorite hand'. He'll even tell people how lucky he gets when he plays T4. His perception of winning with this hand is as distorted as your perception of getting beat by unbelievable suckouts. OVer time AA will win 90% or more and generate a huge part of your profits while these idiots will keep losing until they give up because online poker is rigged or he doesn't have time to play or Full Tilt is full of idiots or online poker is a waste because he needs to play live where he can use his uncanny ability to peer right into the souls of his opponents to make huge profits. Or not.

FWIW I lost several hundred dollars with AA to Th4h three years ago in a live 1/2 game. This guy,who was called Captain called a $ 20 preflop raise with the hand, flopped a straight draw and went all in. The river was an Ace giving me a set but him the straight. I remember that hand like it was yesterday and Full Tilt had nothing to do with it.
