$16 Beginner Tables at Bodog

I built my bankroll playing the lower ones and then started moving towards cash games. This past week I started to get back into the beginner tournaments but at the 8 and 16 dollar levels. I feel I am a lot better than the average at the 8 dollar level. Out of 20, I've cashed in about16 and have gotten 4 1sts and a bunch of seconds and thirds (the only ones that make an impact on a bankroll).

Anyways, I decided that if i got 1st in an $8 I would take my chances with the winnings and put it into a $16 tourney to see how much different it was. Well I played relatively tight like I normally do, 1 or 2 were out within the first blind level and I just about doubled my chips by the time it was down to 5 people and went from there to place 2nd. I noticed there were more good players sitting at the table but it wasn't too bad.

I guess my question is.. what kind of players are generally found at these tables? Beginners with a lot of money, multi-tabling guys/sharks, fish trying to make it big?? And, because this is a strategy section, how do you normally play at this level??

I'm going to play a couple more and feel out the competition here. Any input would be awesome! Thanks for listening to this ramble

Just saw this thread now, or else I would have replied earlier. I used to play the 8 dollars all the time and the play is almost no better than the 4 dollar tourneys. I actually found that the play in the 2 dollars was better than the 4s in most cases. I only played around 15 or so tournies of the 16 dollar tables, and it was sort of mixed. Sometimes I would hit a very good playing table and sometimes I would hit a table where there were 4 all ins on the first hand. Generally whatever stake u play at bodog, there are lots of terrible players there.

I would have to say i've had some of my best success at the $8 sng tourneys. Assuming you play good, solid poker, you would almost certainly be able to make your money back nearly everytime since it pays out 5 of 10.

I think the competion on the $16 levels is a little better but still very beatable. The $16 games tend to take longer verus the $8 version. That's probably due to the quality of your oppents.

The thing I look for in those games is before you even sign up to check and see who the "sharks" are. Check in the lobby and see who is playing multible tables. These are the tables you will want to stay away from.
It's all about who you are up against.

I've won a lot of money at both levels but because I can play more games per hour at the $8 level and the competition is a little softer, id say I prefer it over the $16.

Alright, I got a sample of results from the last couple of days.

Out of 10 games I placed:
2X 1st
2X 2nd
2X 3rd
2X 4th
1X 5th
1X NP
(I played very tight early on and opened up once in the money because I was worried about putting $16 dollars on one table)

Then out of 4:
1X 3rd
1X 4th
2X NP

Not bad at all. I figured this is easy after I saw how well it was raising my bank roll and I think it affected my play. I loosened up a bit and started making some risky plays and didn't play so well in the next couple.

I think I just need to keep myself concentrated and watch how I play and keep myself in line.

I've also been noting who multi-tables and if I can sit on their left to keep position on them.

On cash games I take a lot of notes but for sit-n-gos I really haven't found my notes that helpful because players change as the blinds go up, on the bubble etc. I'm going to find a thread on Sit-n-go note taking.

Thanks for all the feedback on this!
