$1 + $0.25 SnG 9 Player Question / Opinion (FTP)

If you happen to be the lucky player to bust someone right from the start and hold 3000 vs 7 others with 1500, do you think this is enough to sail you into the money without playing anymore?

From experience, the answer is definitely maybe but sometimes not.

Really, it depends. First off, is it a turbo or a regular game? And how aggro are the other players?

If it's a turbo with lots of aggro players, sometimes you can coast into the money with just your initial 1500 stack. If all the players are cautious, however, you're going to have to play hands.

This is true - the games are very easy to beat for that rate and then some though.

FWIW, a 15%ROI in a standard raked game (10%) would roughly translate in to a 2.5%ROI in a game with a 25% rake.

You're better off playing the $2 +.25 SNGs as you're only paying half as much to play versus what you win. So that translates to 12.5%. From 3-100 its roughly 10% and when you get up to $1000 SNG it only 5% but those stakes are beyond my BR.

The important question is though, which game makes you more money?

In my experience, there's a fair sized difference in the standard of play going from the $1 SnGs to the $2 ones. There's nothing wrong with playing the $1 games if you can beat them for a greater amount of money than the $2 games, increased percentage of rake aside.

And I reiterate, the $1 games are very easy to beat for a decent rate.

I think Stars charges a nickel less FWIW.

In my opinion the Fulltilt SnG structures are much worse than those of other sites...

The turbos have around 3 minute blinds, and last time I checked the $1.00 + .25 was a turbo, in which case just doubling up in the beginning wont be good enough most times, the blinds just increase to much to make that size stack healthy enough to survive.

The skill level is usually horrendous, but I would try to play somewhere else such as Pokerstars where the blinds are around 10 minutes long in non-turbo formats and have a better rake structure.

If you intend to just completely sit out, it's risky I think. You certainly can tighten up considerably and only play the monsters and avoid all-ins unless you hit the flop hard. That should get you at least 3rd. Consider, though that the other 2 guys into the last 3 will average 5K chips each - and much more likely one of them will dominate the remaining 10K. Playing for 3rd will make your road to building a bankroll a very very long and painful one.

They offer a non-turbo structure now - I still opt for the turbo though.

Don't you think that SnG turbos tend to give the less skilled players a better chance of making the cash. In other words, don't you think that the cream will tend to rise to to top if more hands are played per session?
