Worst loss ever

OK, to start this off I play regularly at SportsInteraction Poker. They offer the Jackpots where if you win five sit n gos in a row you hit the jackpot, which is up to $22 G's.

Well to start this off, I've been on fire ever since I started playing these tourneys only (on the advice of ChuckT). I'm winning frequently and after a win this morning I was on four in a row. In the fifth game I'm going slow for a while but then the cards start hitting and next thing I know I'm the chip leader with four people left.

Two more go down and me and the second place are just about dead even in chips, he is actually a tad bit ahead. First hand heads up he pushes all in immediately. I look at pocket 5's and call without hesitation. He flips over a suited 9 10. Flop drops a 9, no help on the turn or river. Game over.

In the end I get a $200 consolation prize, but would much rather have the 22 grand. It hurts REAL bad. Just needed to vent.

dang, thats pretty rough. I left a seat at a live table one time and the guy who got my seat hit the bad beat jackpot on his first hand. He won about 3 grand, I think I left with $9 profit

reply worst beat ever

Considering the weight of risk that went along with calling an allin heads up with pocket fives, I wouldn't consider this to be even nearly the worst beat ever. With a jackpot of nearly 22,000 I really think you should have hesitated calling an allin considering you are really an overwhelming favorite to something like an A3. I can honestly say in that situation I would have laid down fives and tried to fight it out another hand. I don't really agree with pushing in with 109 but in that situation it was a fairly good move.

re: Worst loss ever poker

Well I didn't really consider it to be a bad beat. It was a coinflip to begin with so it wasn't like he hit a miracle draw on me. Just the circumstance that makes it tough to take.

To get back to the pocket 5's all in, the guy I was up against was an extremely loose player. He knocked out the last two before us with the same types of hands. He wasn't worried about moving his chips in or out. In fact I think he was just happy to be placing. So giving all that I was completely positive that my pair wouldve been ahead.

In that scenario against that type of player i'm calling with any pair and praying he doesnt hit. Just so happens this time he did. And yea I'm still pissed.

That would be a good idea on your part. I used to only play ring games. I would go on a good run and win a bunch, then I would take some beats and run into big hands and lose a bunch. As a whole I was winning, but not enough to justify the amount of time I put into it. Not to mention those games can be boring as hell.

As for the sit n gos. In a two week period I've come out $200 ahead. Plus a $200 consolation prize, but I definitely don't expect to get that often. That's just the 10 player sit n gos as well. Lot tougher to finish in the money in big tourneys.

ring game vs. tournaments

Whats weird is I found the exact opposite thing. For about four years I played primarily tournaments(low limit). Usually 75% of the time I was playing tournaments. I had about a 40% success rate for reaching the money, and was making about 2-3 final tables in multies a week. But doing this seemed to get me nowhere. I never built up my roll and ended up losing quite a bit of money. I played exclusively on one site which could have been the problem. This site was pokerroom and I do not recommend it at all. What I found was people at low limit tournaments are more apt to call with complete junk. The play is sporatic and you run into alot of real punters that just chuck chips around. Normally I would consider this a good thing, but I started losing hands on the river when i was 87% or better, and losing to bad calls. After being bad beat by some garbage for about the 1000 time I dumped pr and was pretty much done with online poker. Party which I hadn't played on for a couple years gave me $20 for free to get me back. I decided i was real tired of losing low limit tournies to bad players so I went primarily to ring games namely pot limit .10-.25. Next thing I know I've buit up about 200 off the 20 they gave me. I've continued to bounce from site to site to take advantage of the bonuses, and have cashed out more than my buy in from 4 out of 5 sites. After all this I think what I've learned is tournament players will call large bets and gamble more than cash game players, maybe I just tend to play cash games better, but I really don't think so. With the blind structure of a tournament it forces you to make moves that you normally woudn't. It is also very difficult to win tournaments consistently enough to profit. I guess it depends on what type of player you are, but for me 75% ring and 25% tournaments works best for me.

re: Worst loss ever poker

i play on Titan - mostly SnGs to pad my 'roll but also some MTTs for fun (i never do too well but still profit from them) aswell as some ring games
but SnGs are the main income for my bankroll
$10 and $20 are my new stakes and they're working VERY well
i've built my bankroll almost entirely on SnGs, but also one big MTT payout

I was playing a mass tourney on PokerStars, $10+$1 with about 1,000 entrants. I played tight and won pretty much every hand until I had turned a 1,500 chip stack into 17,000. So I get J9 suited and call. The flop comes JT9 with the T and 9 of my same suit. One guy bets hard, I call, and another guy calls. The turn is a J of the same suit as the T and 9. I have a boat and have no worries about a flush. I go all in. The guy who bet hard originally folds, but the previous caller calls again. He's got 78 suited for a straight flush. I go from being about 20th in stacks to being out.

re: Worst loss ever poker

I really dont wanna make this any worse than it already is but you was willing to risk 20k on a coinflip, of which AT BEST you were 50/50? Against an overpair you are drawing to 2 outs

I hate to say it but if the cards were dropping that well then surely you would have been better off waiting for a better hand to risk 20k. I would lay 55 down in a flash in this situation

Extremely well done on winning 4 in a row though, that is some great work
