World Poker Exchange

It seems like a great site, no rake, lots of freerolls. Yet whenever I login, I almost always see less than or close to 1000 people playing. Is there a reason why nobody seems to play at this site.

I guess there are just too many sites out there, Nickzz. WPEX is one that I have on my list to check out, but I already have live accounts at 15 different poker rooms, which is already more than I can really use.

Is the site open to American players? I didn't see the site name on either list in the "banned sites" thread, but it's possible I'm just blind.

Yes, CB, they are American-friendly. Likely to remain so too, I should think, because they are outside the US and they are not a publicly-traded company, so not under pressure.

They have a rather unique system whereby your rake is refunded (I believe once a month), so their games wind up being free of charge. I understand that they are a pretty big sportsbook, and that the profits from that fund the poker room, which is a minor part of the operation.

As Nickzz has pointed out, the downside is low traffic. I just checked out some independent traffic reports, and it looks like their normal peak is around 600 players at any one time, which makes it less than a tenth the size of Titan, Bodog or Absolute.

Ty, ET. The rake refund thing sounds pretty great. I can relate to topic creator now in wondering why the site doesn't have more traffic. I would think word of that would spread and get a lot of players to try it out. I might give it a whirl myself.

If you could be so kind as to find something on their site or such that says one way or the other and post it in the allowed/banned thread, we can update the list to reflect them.

Thanks ET...lol, I love that. ET phone home.

I`m not actually a member there, JD, and am not familiar with the site. My info comes from other forums (boooo) and from reviews.

I have played there before - its not too bad, but does suffer from a lack of players and i found the software a little awkward at times.

The no rake angle is a nice advantage - but that does rely on opponents .

As i remember when signing up with them you will be required to supply copies of id (c/card etc)

Well I can only guess that the play there is extremely tight due to the no rake...no action = not somewhere I'd like to play...

I don't understand your point. How does 'no rake' translate into 'no action'? lol

I've been playing there for a while and the no rake system is superb. If only there were more players this would be my first choice pokerroom.

From the way I understand it this is a very upstanding site. The problem with most people seems to be, from what I have others say, is the lack of enough players as people don't seem to like the software. Also I guess it's a bit hard to make $$ there as the players are tight. Maybe not allot of fish?

Well I have just signed up and about to play a freeroll to check the graphics. If I like it I could see depositing here just to add to aites I am able to play at. I am also interested to check out the no rake deal. I as well do not like the fact that there aren't very many players. At the time there are 1459 players which is about 450 more than nickzz had seen. Maybe it is gaining popularity through forums such as these? Good luck at the tables!

I've been a member at the exchange for nearly 4 yrs. I'm a big fan and do not play anywhere else. I just dont see the point in paying to play if I dont have to. Its true the traffic is small, but you can always find a game. Its not like the site goes to bed and there aren't any tables open. As far as that peak number jumping up to 1500-1800 players, that is only right before a freeroll and they players arent contributing to the real tables. Typically 300-850 players are online, most of whom play limit hold 'em. There are some very big limit games here. The no limit action is mostly 100NL and down. However you usually 2-3 200NL tables goin, and 1 each of 400nl, 600nl, and 1000nl. These higher stakes games are usually shorthanded play. If you like action, these are the games to play. Another nice thing about the site is that most of the tournaments are guaranteed prize pools. Because of low traffic, often times they dont fill up and there is added money. This makes your return on your investment much greater. The one tournament that does this more than any other, is the weekly 5K guarantee on Sunday at 4:30 for $25+2. This is must play every week. Typically 170 players meaning $750 is added to the pool. Pays 18 usually. Great game. Also the sit n goes are profitable because they offer 5 man and 10 man games paying top 2 and top 3. You can fold you way to the money in many of the 5 man games. They are plenty of fish on the low lvls, but from 100NL and up will find some pretty good play. However, being a sister site of a major sportsbook you will see many of the gamblers take their winnings and sit at a poker game and blow a couple hundred. This is especially true sunday nights after NFL games. I can even go so far as to tell you who to look for. A player called Massagestud is a huge sports better and does very very at it. He is a complete maniac at a poker table though and you can do a lil dance everytime you see him take a seat at a 200nl table. Most of the tournaments range from 20-80 players, peaking at around 130 for some of the guaranteed games in the evening. Those of you who dont like comitting 7hrs to play a game on the bigger sites can enjoy this alot. OK, Ive rambled on enough i suppose, but i would seriously recommend you check this site out sooner rather than later, and bring a friend w/ ya. Its the best bargain out there. Completely US friendly, based in Antiqua. You won't find it on many poker site lists because the owners are wanted men in the US so advertising here isnt allowed. This, more than anything else, is the cause of the low traffic. You can read about that situation more in the card player magazine article about the owners and the site. It can be found here, http://www.worldpx.com/promotions/cardplayer.asp Hope to see ya around the exchange.

WorldPX: improved post

I've been a member at the exchange for nearly 4 yrs. I'm a big fan and do not play anywhere else. I just dont see the point in paying to play if I dont have to. How the no-rake system works is pretty cool. Rake is taken out of every pot and from each tournament buy-in. This amount is tracked in your cashier window so you may see how much you have saved. You receive your rebate on Monday each week. I typically play 20-30hrs/wk at 100NL games and many tournaments w/ buy-ins of $5+1 and $10+1. I would say my avg rake rebate falls between $200-350/wk. What other site do you earn bonuses like that? You can estimate what your savings would be based on my stakes and if you play higher or lower. There are players who earn $1,500-2,500/wk. In your weekly rebate email they tell you your rebate and the week's highest rebate paid out. Its fun to see these guys raking $5,000+ each month. I'd say there are typically 300-850 players online actually playing w/ real money. Sometimes you'll see the number spike to nearly 2,000. This is due to as many as 1,800 players joining the freerolls that are held every 4hrs. For people looking to build a bankroll from nothing this is a great site to start on because of the frequency of freerolls. 6 $50 freerolls a day. Most of the real money players here are limit hold'em players w/ stakes from $0.10/0.20 to $100/200. The bulk of the traffic plays $2/4 and $5/10. The no limit hold'em games carry 30-100 players w/ stakes from $10Max to $2,000Max w/ the bulk of traffic playing 100max and down. Tables offer 10 or 6 seats. Most of the higher stakes nl games are shorthanded and full of action. The play on the ring games is of average skill. The main portion of the business is a giant sportsbook, leading to many fish who are at the table to blow their winnings from the weeks NFL action. This leads to the sharks at the tables. Being a small traffic site, you can learn who they are quickly and just wait for the fresh meat instead. The King Fish on the site is a player called Massagestud. Huge sports gambler who seems to make a small fortune a couple times a month on one wager or another and blows a few hundred at a time on 200NL tables afterwards. He's a certified maniac and you may feel free to do a lil dance if you see him sit at your table. The tournament scene here is great. Most games are guaranteed prize pools and rarely fill up to the quota. Added money is common place. Average tournament size is probably 50 players. The ones I played in tonight had, 89, 32, 60, and 28 players. With the games this small you dont have to commit 7 hrs to play like you do on the larger sites. 2-3hrs will see the end of nearly all tournaments here. A big plus for those of us who are limited to only a couple hrs a night to play. Most of the buy-ins are $5 or $10, w/ a nightly $50 buy-in game. They have implemented higher stakes tournaments at $200, $300 and $500 buy-ins but I have yet to see one actually get under way due to lack of interest. The largest and most lucrative game on the site is by far the Sunday 5k guarantee $25+2 buy-in. A 200 player target typically falls short and ends up w/ around 170 players in the field. This means $750 added into the pool spread over 18 paid places. Winner takes home $1,500. This is a must play each and every week. The sit n goes are either 5 or 10 seat games paying 2 and 3 spots respectively. They range from $2 to $100 buy-ins. In the 5 seat games you can often fold into the money at the lower buy-ins. The only pro I've seen playing here is Max Pescatori. You may recognize him from a couple tournaments on ESPN. He was in the episode w/ that really lucky young kid Ricky Zilling. There were other pros at the table such as Jen Harmon and Scotty Nguyen. Max is one w/ the really goofy World Poker Exchange cycling cap on backwards. Its not exactly FullTilt over here, what can I say. But, this is the best bargain anywhere for online poker sites, especially since many of the major sites have become unavailable in the US. World Poker Exchange is still accessible to stateside players as its based out of Antiqua. I believe the owners of the company are wanted men in the US. Don't worry, they aren't bad men or anything. Just making money the government thinks they should have a piece of. I suspect this is the reason you don't see advertising here in the states. Sort of a blackball thing perhaps. That is just speculation however. You can read more about the site, its owners, and their story w/ the US government in the article in Card Player Magazine found here, http://www.worldpx.com/promotions/cardplayer.asp. If you play significant hrs of poker online, you'd be a fool not to check this site out immediately. Bring a friend too. How could you not share a deal this good?
