Where to Play? Hey Everyone, I have been playing poker for 4 years now (at home) and recently at the caisno. I just turned 18 years old and usually play in home games for 40-100 dollar buy-ins. I consider my-self to be a strong poker player for my age. On my 18th Birthday I went to the local casino and played 1/2 NL. I walked away at the end of the night with close to 1,000 dollars in profit. I decided to try and play online and deposited 200 dollars into Absolute Poker. I sat down at the 1/2 NL Hold Em table and mananged to raise my 200 to 1,000 dollars after 2 days. I cashed out for about 400 dollars and afterwards everything went downhill. Even though I am young I know the game and understand the percentages. I saw the worst bad beats possible-full house beaten by quads, etc. All that I want is to find a fair poker room. A site that administers it's fair share of bad beats but that offers a legitimate game to it's customers. My question is: Where do you play and if you had to recommend one site to play on (1/2 and 2/4 NL) which one would it be? Any information that you have will be appreciated since I am young and new to the online poker room. Thanks

Welcome to CardsChat. Well, where to start? First I suggest you peruse the 'Online Poker is Rigged' threads. Do this to get that notion out of your head. Then realize the notion of variance, and how it relates to you and poker, either online or live. Then read all the stuff here. You don't show where you live, and mentioned depositing at Absolute and didn't mention any hassle. Suggests you live outside the states. In which case the world is your oyster. For us prisoners of the United States of Amerika, there are only a few sites, Full Tilt, my personal favorite, Poker Stars, UltimateBet, Absolute, Bodog. There are probably many small sites that accept US players but word is not out on most of them yet. Since you are playing at a level above micro games, any of the sites would be ok. Suggest you check each of them out, use play money till you understand the controls. I suggest Full Tilt.

I forgot to mention that I am located in the United States. Also, I am currently playing 1/2 NL but I decided to move up to 2/4 NL and felt much better playing at the higher level. My current anticipated bankroll will allow me quite a bit of variance but I plan to stay at the 2/4 table.

re: Where to Play? poker Are you serious? You plan to play 2/4 NL to start? I just railed Annette_15 playing 3/6 NL on UB, why not start there? I am sure she would love to see you sit down and would be more than willing to give you "lessons" since you are just starting out and all... Last edited by aliengenius : 11th May 2007 at 7:28 AM.
