PokerStarsPokerStars is one of the best sites to play online poker. They accept US players & using PokerStars marketing code CARDSCHAT you get a $75 bonus.

PPParty Poker is probably the best known online poker room. Use the Party Poker bonus code CC500 for a 100% upto $500 deposit bonus.

Learned to play watching my father at family gatherings and poker parties he would have at the house. Some where around the age of 10 or 12 I was even allowed to sit in and play some.

From high school on I rarely went anywhere without a deck.. bars, parties, weddings, funerals. I was always looking for a game. started going to Vegas (and Laughlin) on a regular basis after moving to Arizona. Got my first taste of live casino action at a little strip casino called Silver City (I think) which was across the street from the Stardust. Played a lot at MGM Grand when they opened.

Played some online off and on but I tend to get bored with it. Just started up again at Poker Stars. I much prefer the face-to-face interaction. The best part of playing online is the lil whippersnappers that get all huffy when I don’t play fast enough. They do crack me up.

That’s the short version for any a yall that care to read.

Good luck

I always loved poker and was really into watching it on TV, just never really knew how to play. So one day I was watching a WSOP event and saw a Bodog commerical. I went and got my laptop and downloaded the software. I read a few help guides on poker and gathered as much data about the game as I could.
I then started playing with Play Money chips, my wife kept asking me what was so fun about playing poker, so she downloaded it as well and we have never stopped since.
Since then I have played in home games, cash games, casinos, tournaments.....you name it!!

I'd been watching poker on TV. There were that really handsome Dane ... and Jesus F. ... and the smiling Australian. And I remembered playing poker when I was a teen, 30 years ago. So I restarted, first with friends, then online.
Because of the low buy ins, I mostly play at Poker Stars, but I feel better at Full Tilt.

where did i learn to play poker

that is a real good question for me to answer....i have been playing poker since i was a little girl, with my dad.it seems he always had a weekend game at our house.sometimes after supper we would all clean off the table and get out the chips growing up with 5 sisters and 1 brother we couldnt afford to go out much so we played poker for peanuts....yep we acctually used peanuts for money....it was fun...this was nice to think back of a nice childhood memory and it had to do with poker.....lol jackie

Re: where did I learn

I remember the first time I changed the channel and seen Poker being played on ESPN... I WAS LIKE...OMG.. Poker is now a SPORT???

Poker always intimidated me..

I played for years on MSN Zone...in Spades. When they changed the spades program... I played holdem at their site... OMG didnt know that 23456 beat A2345..I was sooo complaining..

well after a few weeks..i downloaded pokerstars...and been there ever since. I just started playing in the ring games... I do very well in I am NOT tired.

I mostly taught myself...THANK GOODNESS FOR PLAY MONEY!!

My father is an excellent poker player..my mom is horrible! i fall somewhere closer to my fathers abilities.

But now, I seem to place higher in tours then he does.

Thats my story...and I'm sticking to it

Online

I guess I "learned" online with Centrebet Poker.

I love the Live Casino games at Centrebet. So much better with video of the actual dizes, cards, roulette wheel.. Then you kind of get a bit assured that there isn't a computer algorithm making the house harvest your dollars.

LOL

Iraq

I learned to play overseas in Kuwait and Iraq. I learned spades first, then we got bored and wanted to play something for money. I pretty much broke even in the long term over there, but we had some crazy nights. $40 buy ins ring games. A lot of guys would come and buy in for as much as $200, then lose it all and leave. A friend of mine made a $1000 in 5 hours one night. Any other military people on here who played over there?

I started learning Hold 'em at local bar games and home games, then watched the first couple of seasons of the WPT over and over on DVD, churned through a few poker strategy blogs and sites, then started playing online

Learned to play stud when I was 8 or 9 with the old man, but now I play mostly hold'em, which I learned to play a few years ago. I recently learned to appreciate the finer points of poker playing and am trying to learn some more advanced skills. Right now I either play cards with my buddies at home, or since I'm in the Navy sitting on the ship in the middle of the ocean with nothing better to do.
I'm still cautious about throwing money into an online poker game, but I'm thinking I will probably make a deposit by the end of the month.

Haven't been to the sandbox, but I can vouch for the way people play when they are bored with nowhere to go, Most of the time I can make 40-50 bucks an hour playing cards on the ship, and that is $5 buy-in tournament style games. I have never seen 7,2 hit so many times in my life until I started playing on the mess decks.

I got interested watching Holdem on TV, then bought a CD and played on computer. 12 months ago heard you could play with play money and joined Party Poker - got hooked big time and now play regularly at more than 10 sites - freerolls and small $ games with my meagre winnings - but winning more often now so watch out !!!!!

I don't think I have learned to play from any one place. I just play and change my strategy based on what I see happening. I do play at brick and mortar casinos more than online ones. It's a totally different game.

i learned at a friends house playing $5 limit, than quarter fifty limit at another friends house. stuck to just those 2 games for a year and tried to get better at it. it's debatable if i improved or got worse.

I learned from books, then playing online freeroll. With the money won, I usually play SitNGo, low Buy-in tournaments and some cash table ($0,10/$0,25) Hold'em NL

Re: Where did you learn to play?

Hey all - just signed up and eager to be a part of the community!

I learned to play Hold'Em over 4 years ago. Learned from watching TV (watching the old WSOP's, back in the days when there weren't 6000 players in the Main Event!). Also learned just by playing for play money online - started out playing on PokerRoom then branched out from there.

Then started playing at family gatherings where I learned even more, especially from my uncle who's a dealer. Now I'm a part-time dealer as well as other members of my family (not at any casino but for fun-nights like corporate parties and such) and have continued to learn through that. It's kinda cool and interesting meeting all the different types of people and players through this biz.

Cheers

With my grandma of all people!!!!

I played 5 card stud forever ago with my Grandma during the summer. Man she kicked my butt on a regular basis. She really taught me alot about patterns and tells when I was really too young to understand but I rely on alot of the stuff she taught me now more than ever.

I'm one of the sad people who learned watching the WSOP a few years ago. I learned more once I got online and played at FTP, but I first learned hold em from TV. I know it's sad but its true!

Now my husband gets mad because he can't get me to stop!!!!!
