I learned to play watching the Celeb Poker they used to have on TV. Then, when I satarted playing, I learned on pogo.com using a tutorial.

PokerStarsPokerStars is one of the best sites to play online poker. They accept US players & using PokerStars marketing code CARDSCHAT you get a $75 bonus.

PPParty Poker is probably the best known online poker room. Use the Party Poker bonus code CC500 for a 100% upto $500 deposit bonus.

I learned how play limit holdem and limit omaha/8 in a home game. I went online in Jan 2006 and was further schooled in NL holdem and plimit omaha hi in the free games and on the party poker tutor. Our home game was a progressive limit game 1bet to see the flop without raises. 2 bets with 3 raises on the flop, 3 bets 3 raises on the turn and 4 bets 3 raises on the river. So it worked like 25 cents to see flop, 50 cent flop bet, 75cents turn bet and $1.00 on the river. It was split pot high low also. So it did not teach me the game as it should have been played. No preflop betting. When I was a kid, I played Guts, Draw, InBetween, Seven Card Bitch and Jacks or better progressive. Nobody played holdem back then. Community card games were frowned upon. This is like 1962to 1975. I was always the guy that won or lost a couple of bucks. Now it is a lot different since I have won several hundred at one shot. Never did that in our home games.

My father was a poker player. Back in the 60's I would regularly be tapped to listen to the stories and re-play hands with him. Being of only elementary age, much of the wisdom was lost on me but never the less those are some of my best memories. I may not have gotten his skills but I certainly inherited his love of the game.

My dad first taught me 5 card draw when I was around 10. We played with a set of hoyle plastic chips. I didn't learn Holdem until I was 17. Today, NLHE is my favorite game and the one I play most frequently. One of my friends hosts a weekly tournament at his house on Sunday at 8 PM. We typically play a $20 NLHE tournament with about 8-10 players every week. 3rd place gets their money back, 2nd place gets double their money and the winner takes the rest. It is more like a social event than a serious game and its great fun.

Hi @ all!

At first I watched Poker on TV. Then I started playing on PartyPoker and I liked it very much. But the problem was that I lost too much money. So I looked for a site where I could learn to play poker. And i found the site you can find in my signature. Its a great site and Im really thankful because I became a winning player!

Good luck everyone!

we start playing "dealer choise" poker game 6 years ago with couple of friends, then suddently we decided to play a night only at holdem. Since then, we only play this great game, all the time. I went to Vegas and Atlantic City twice and after that I started to play online.

I had never played holdem, although poker and BJ since I was a kid. At a bike rally, the guys played and I was so lost. Came home and stated watching on TV, till I started on FT. Was so lost for about a week, met some good people who explained the basics. After months at the low chip tables, met a good player who coached me daily and took my game to a whole new level. Then played some on other sites, but always back to FT.

I started playing poker at local free tournaments as a way of spending time with my friends. I quickly got hooked on the people as ell as the fun and challenge, especially after my first tournament win. I started playing online to learn more. I look forward to learning even more from you !

I started playing poker in the 6th grade and learned from my dad. He used too have tournaments at our house all the time with a bunch of people. And i was tired of sitting there and watching them and not knowing how too play. So he taught me how to play, and now im in love with it!

Played many many years ago when introduced to it by some friends and we played home games. Then I started watching it on tv. After that I got online and played alot with free money while reading every site on the internet I could find about it.

After I got ok at it I started in freerolls just for large tourney experience. that was actually a mistake for a while, I started playing alot looser/risker etc... like so many others do in them. Finally realized when I wasn't even making the top 50% consistently that had to change. Thankfully before I started playing with real money.

WSOP

Watching the WSOP every year at Binion's.
We hit Vegas/Reno every year so added this to the itinerary.
This was however when they ran earlier in the year... april/May
then May/June and it didn't run for 6 weeks.
Completely different feel standing in that room vs RIO now. Glad I got to experience it.
Of course this was when you could stand 5' away from the tables and see action. Wawtched Fergusen's final table in 2000.
To get playing time I too went online and thru casino and cardplayer mags learned of the online sites opening up so joined those immediately.
We also play at weekly turneys at local casinos.

Poker leagues

I learned to play in poker leagues at local bars. In my area a lot of bar owners are having tournaments. Some as many as four nights a week. I just decided to sit down and try it. I have been hooked ever since. I think it is a good way to learn because its free. However people don't play near as loose as online play tables. Anybody else play live cards in tournaments?

my cousin introduced me to the game in december 06. since then i've been playin only play money, but i realised that the people playing these tournaments arn't very good so i could never really try and make plays at a pot because they would call with anything and go allin with like KJ

With my Fam

I learned to play poker through my fanily. We always had games on the weekends and I enjoyed cleaning up. Made good cash for a teenager winning almost every other weekend at over $100 a game.
