This post started long ago but its a good one lol
I actually learned how to play stud from my Dad and his brothers. Dad would let us kids watch then after the adults were done the kids could play. I first played in a casino in 1990 in a 25 cent ante game of holdem. Been hooked ever since.

PokerStarsPokerStars is one of the best poker sites on the internet. They accept US players and using PokerStars marketing code CARDSCHAT you get a $75 bonus.

When I was growing up my father played in games every week. I would go with him or watch him in the home games and that is where I first learned and grew to have a interest in poker!

The first game I learned was pitch, been playing for money with that for ever. But so many more people play poker that I just kind of picked it up along the way.

My dad taught me to play when I was about 9-years old. In high school my buddies and I played during lunch and then after school fairly often. I didn't know how badly we played until I took a trip to Reno and played against some tougher players

Always played cards with grandparents, older relatives although never holdem, played stud, brag etc. Then started playing with freinds 3 or 4 years ago after watching one of the WSOP shows on TV and then moved on to online poker.

i got hooked watching wpt on tv. Saw the ad for pokerstars and jumped on it. Used play money for a while just to see how fast I could lose it by being loose and not really having any skill. Went on to" play money "sit and gos which helped a great deal. Then off to money tables. Enjoy my games the most on real money tables and now tourneys but watch out for those little 3 and 5 rebuy tourneys. It seems the people are looser than the play money. Have learned to be sooooooo patient.

I learned forst from my father and not only poker but tons of other games. I taught my self omaha h and h/l. But for getting better at hold'em which is what i mainly play took no time to lear but to get better has taking lots of hard work. Watching others play see their stratagies and just try to better yourself. The one saying i think is true is "hold'em takes 5 minutes to learn but a lifetime to master." I think there will never be a #1 player but there will be good players and great players. Wow got off subject there but yeah mostly learned from my dad and myself.

I learned how to play on the xbox believe it or not. I rented a game called stacked with Daniel Negreanue. He actually had some really good tips and I think my style is similar to his...except that I am far from being that good. Then I started playing on AOL ....they actually have a poker site that you can win a seat at the wsop. So many people in those tournies but a good experience. I have not read a book...I am learning the hard way but probably should since this is starting to be an expensive hobby

Hi,
we used to have 'game' nights' where my family would play board games during the night with a load of drinks thrown in.
Thinking poker would be a nice change I tried to organise a home hold em game with family, it was the first time for every one but unfortunately it coincided with the final for pop idol so took backstage .
Needless to say it didnt run well, but i stuck at it, played some play money games and hit the 1 cent tables, since then i have played a few online sites. I started on 888 but after a long long spell of bad beats i dropped them, i've been using WPT now, couldnt be happier.
I keep my head above water - just
Now i organise regular home games £10 buy in. I have started a poker epidemic amongst my friends lol

I learned how to play post "Rounders" and we got some cheap plastic chips and a deck of cards... we had to loook up the rules online and then still got confused a few times.

I would have to say that I am still trying to learn the game today. Playing on a bunch of sites and posting on my blog.

Best way to learn is with friends and beers.

At least that's how I learned to play and it worked for me. Although I have seen online Poker sites with great tutorials for beginners. If you want you can email me and I will gladly recommend a site for you. I dont want to get banned here so I wont put any URL's

Take care,

P-ball

I learned to play hold 'em with some former co-workers that would have cash games on the weekends. It took me a while to learn what was going on and then I started playing online with PartyPoker. Switched over to PokerStars and I am still learning!!!!

I learned by watching it on tv. I played at Foxwoods in 2003 and won a little at the $2/$4 table but I didn't know enough to really know what I was doing at the time. I can't wait to go to another casino to try again.

My father taught me when I was 8 and he taught my children when they were 4 and 6 - all good players too! At one local "family" tournament, my 14 year old son was playing and winning. I stood behind him, one of the players at the table looked at me and asked if I was Frank's daughter. I said yes. He then said Okay, you belong to Frank, he belongs to you, I fold! Luck, skill, superstition, or reputation - all count!

I knew the game, but learned the most early (pre internet) at occasional table where the main ingredient was the most recent import from bogata. Multi function cards you know.

Pokerschoolonline. Learned a lot there, games were light years ahead of play money while not risking any real money. I have no doubt that had I gone straight into real money play I would have had a much more expensive "education".

i learned the basics watching WPT!! hehe

then i tried to teach my friends.

the betting structure WAS SO WRONG. we bet, raised, and re-raised without regard for the blind or the previous bets.

it was only when i played online at pokerroom.com that i discovered the mistake :P

I started when I was a mere bloom on the tree lol.

Seriously, I started learning about poker when I was a child at my Grandparent's home. I sat on my Grandfather's lap watching the "men" play poker at family gatherings. Mannnnnnn, could he bluff lol.
